My friend dropped this off for me to restore for him.

It’s a 1920’s era fire alarm pull station from the City of Oakland. It’s a wind up telegraph, when you pull the lever it sends a coded message to the fire department.





San Francisco actually still uses them to this day.

The telegraph winding mechanism is seized, so I’m going to be trying to fix it.

As for the cabinet, I’ll strip the paint off (it’s definitely lead paint) and send it to the powder coater after sandblasting.



It weighs a metric ton. It’s like 2x3’ of solid cast iron.
