I've got the DeWalt 20v Max XR impact driver which is the very similar performing competing DeWalt tool. I've done a couple LCA swaps over the past weekends, and it was invaluable in breaking corroded hardware free as well as freeing nuts seized on free spinning ball joints. While a pneumatic tool can be higher power and lighter weight, the convince of the battery solution for the weekend warrior is hard to beat. I've standardized my entire cordless toolset on one product line, so I can buy bare tools and just use my existing battery packs and chargers to streamline my toolset.

It will be ready for pick up Monday. Home Depot ship to store is slow and sucks, I won’t use it again lol. But I’ll go get it Wednesday since I’m off work that day.

 

My old Craftsman reciprocating saw gave out so I bought the DeWalt 20v version. The 3amp battery would go dead in about 15 minutes. My only save grace was that I have 5 batteries. It seems like a good saw but if you are doing some demo work, you better have plenty of batteries. Has anyone else had this issue?

 

I have some older batteries that don't last as long as new. How old are your batteries?
I had two obvious fakes and two hard to tell knock offs that don't last as long as OEM batteries. Are your batteries authentic?

I have two 20V Max recipros and constant hacking, cutting, whacking, sawing and pummeling do put a drain on the batteries, but 15 minutes seems pretty short, IHMO.

EDIT: I forgot to add the big motor devices do better on the 5Ah batteries, give one a try.

 

I have two 1.3ah batteries for my drill and impact driver. I also have three 3ah batteries that I bought new before Christmas. All 5 are OEM DeWalt batteries from Lowes/Home Depot. It has been extremely hot in our area and I think that may be part of the problem. The batteries actually had to cool down before they would charge. I was cutting through old treated lumber from a deck I was taking apart.

 

Living in a cool temperate rain forest that is something I have not tested - heat. But I know heat is not of your side. A 5Ah probably won't heat up as fast but will take longer to cool.

Yeah the 1.3 don't even last real long for lighting (I have 3 different DeWalt lights).

I used just one 5Ah battery with a single charge in my 20V Max osculating tool to take the grout out of our generous tiled shower stall. That took days (nasty job). 41/2 inch square tiles, Don't ask. I know that tool doesn't draw as much as any of the recipro saws, but I was impressed. It was near done on the last run. The regrout does look amazing and I guess worth it - no one would quote it.
