I've searched the board and read through a significant amount of threads about people who have put a RTT on their Leer shell. Majority of people have said they've experienced no problems however most of the threads are relatively old.

With that said, I wanted to get an updated idea of who has had their RTT setup on their Leer shell, for how long, and if you've had any problems.

I emailed Leer and got this response:

"LEER truck caps have a dynamic load rating of 150 pounds and a static snow load rating of 21 pounds per square foot (21 lb/sq-ft). This snow load rating is equivalent to 1 foot of wet, heavy, snow. It is important to understand that static snow loads are evenly distributed across the entire surface of the cap. A typical 8 foot cap has a approximate surface area of 35 sq-ft. This, when multiplied by the snow load rating, results in an overall snow load rating of 735 pounds.

Because LEER has such a wide range of cap models and because we offer so many different door and window configurations it is impossible to provide a single static load rating. The style and options selected for your customer cap will necessarily change its load carrying characteristics. Due to installation variations from installer to installer, LEER is unable to provide a static load rating for all ladder rack installations."

I wish someone would have replied to your post, I'm interested in this myself. I called Leer after searching third party websites for their number. Also after submitting the form on their website a month ago with no reply. They would not give a straight answer to the weight question for me and they basically said if I installed a Prinsu rack or any rack that they don't sell and install it voids the warranty. I took that as if you buy this we try not to warranty it at all and you're on your own.

(Update: I wanted to correct something I said here, after clarifying it with Leer what they meant was if I installed a rack myself without using their Thule rail mounting points it would void the warranty. I wasn't planning on doing that to start with but I guess that's how they took it when I asked.)

For what it's worth...Leer is coming out with their own RTT. I think it's time to finally put this topic to bed. I tried for a long time to find horror stories of shell failures due to RTTs & they just really don't exist.

If they don't exist that's an even better reason for Leer to say here's the dynamic and static weight limits that we warranty. All I'm asking is for them to be clear about it.

They are just trying to clear themselves of any issues, people overload there cap capacity with all types of gear with all types of racks. There warranty is something to be desired IMHO anyways. I would just do what you want and not worry.
