Ita cheap happiness just to have it. Even if you dont need it. Having it just in case is always better than not.

you can be financially responsible, and still make financially negative decisions, because they improve quality of life.

I don't get attached to inanimate objects.

I like my truck, but if something were to happen maybe someone or I wreck it. It would just get replaced and I wouldn't think a thing of it.

Same thing if my house got destroyed by a storm or any other natural disaster, as long as no one or animal inside was injured it will get rebuilt.

I have 550k life insurance policy and i put 10% into my 401k every check. Soon to go up to 15%. I wont be a burden at all. I have every intention of retiring when im 55. My 401k will be fat by then as long as i keep up what im doing. Im not saying i dont have a plan. Im just saying i dont have any savings in a bank. We live check to check and have as much fun as possible with whats left after bills and food every month. Sometimes its a little some times its alot. But it always get spent and memories are made because of that.

I'm a little more "structured" than that, by always trying to keep some savings for specific situations.

but I refuse to make every decision in life based on if it's financially smart or not. that's no way to live.

Agreed. And we are going to try very soon to get 5k put up in an account for house problems as our home waranty expires in a few months. So we will have that for lifes little moments. Like i said i have a plan. I just dont intend to live life for the future when that future isnt guarnteed. I will prepare for it if i make it there, but if i dont i want to make sure i leave with as few regrets as possible.

    exactly.

so to say "I wouldn't do that if it's paid off" is not a great reason to not do something lol.

I agree, kinda like how I bought a 3d printer. I wouldn't say it improved my quality of life, but it's another cool hobby.

That's about what I have life insurance, and I don't have anyone that depends on me. I figured I'd give it to my mom and gf if she'll take care of the dogs and pay for her vet school if something happened.

I couldn't imagine living check to check though, $5k wouldn't be enough to cover most things that break in a house. Also where's the savings to jump on those deals when one arrises?

I want close to a years salary easily liquid if I were to for whatever reason be put in a situation where I didn't have any income.

The key word here is every, I don't make every decision based on finances, but most for sure.
Which it's kind of automated at this point.

I don't even want to make "most" based on finances, and thankfully I don't.

shouldn't we, as a whole, do better of providing input to people based on if we were "them" though....not from an "I" perspective?

It's a trade off, like you said. House outweighs the ramen noodles lol

Well you're going on a 7k honeymoon that's plenty of reason to sell the truck.

like Mark said what works best for some may not be for others. It doesn't stress me that my brain works like this now, it's normal and most people don't see it unless I tell them.

why would I sell the truck to go on the honeymoon if I don't need to?

Why would you not, you were thinking about selling it. Thinking makes me think you're looking for reasons to or to not sell it.

I guess I'm curious on why you were thinking of selling it.

thought I was pretty clear on that? to simply get something more useful to me in life right now, instead of driving a vehicle built for offroad. I don't "use" the truck, but I could use something else.

Don’t live beyond your means, and build your nest egg, and everything will be alright. I learned money from my parents, who are right wads, and I am doing perfectly fine in life. Sadly, not everybody is good at money. Also, there are more riches to life than just money.
