4 Wheel Parts was (and may still) having a great sale on duratracs. I got 5 c-load (265) duratracs delivered for under $800

 

Goodyear Duratarcs. Do well all around and are pretty good in the snow. 265/75/16 Come in C and E load. I think they come in SL too?

Edit: for reference discount tire (think you have a Canadian version) price matched with mounting and certs out the door was $735 US plus a 100 dollar rebate




Stock height TRD OR with 1 size up from 265 70 16 to 265 75 16 (30.6 to 31.6) average 19 to 20 mixed driving regularly see 20+ highway. C load 45lbs each.

 

Narrow tires cut through snow and mud to find traction, as opposed to wide tires floating. Obviously not bottomless drifts or mud pits, but you get the idea.

E rated tires are generally thought to have tougher sidewalls, lending peace of mind off-road.

I have this size on my reg cab 1st gen and no complaints with handling vs. the p rated stock tires. And they are the same width as stock. Nice that I did not need to worry about any clearance, trimming, backspacing, etc. and nearly 32” tire. That, and sidewall toughness, is why I chose them.

The first gen is a lot smaller, too, so the skinny tire does not look as skinny IMO. To each their own.

 

I have 245s wildpeaks on my and the truck drives like a train. Straight. Nice feedback in the corners and bends. I can take freeway bends at 80 - 85 mph without any issues. Even in the rain.
235 is a tip smaller. 10 mm to be exact

But I would go with 255's

 

Really appreciate the insight and feedback from everyone here. I have narrowed my tire decision down to three and will be visiting a tire shop tomorrow to pick them out. So far my choices are as follows:

1) Nitto Ridge Grappler: I had these tires before and really like them. Also highly rated in wet conditions. The folks at Custom Offsets have good videos and they say this is their number one overall tire choice / best seller.

2) Toyo Open Country: Look good. Slightly better price. Only challenge is that availability is a huge issue. Product supply is low where I live.

3) Falken Wildparks: Gaining ground as the best seller (compared to the much more expensive but awesome KO2s). Will look at these tomorrow afternoon.

Wild card: Pirelli Scorpions. Available is currently limited but these look like great tires. I hope to see them in person.

If anyone is interested I will continue to post an update. I am grateful for the folks who took the time to help me grind through this decision. I can't lie ... picking tires is actually fun. .

 

x2 on the duratracs, with an E rated set you'll get 100k miles out of them on a stock truck.

Agree with you ... saw them today and they look great! I think they are a bit overkill for me (not to mention much more). What is interesting is that the two tire shops that are good near me feel that the Nittos are better on the street and better in the rain (which we get a lot here). I found that interesting. Could just be there own bias because I think those tires are by far the best seller in the marketing with the Falkens catching up as the budget pick. Seems like those are the top two from what I have found in my research.

 

My buddy ran falkens and loved them. I was about to get some myself until I came across duratracs. My dad runs them on his jeep. Plus the people in my local area said they did great in the rain on wet roads and great offroad.

The Wildpeaks in SL are going to offer the best snow performance of anything you've listed, FWIW. That said you can't really go wrong with your updated Top 3 list.

 

Of your list, I've had G2s and Ridge Grapplers. The G2s were obviously the best on road, but they didn't last as long as I had hoped (about 45k miles) and they were not great off road. Ridge Grapplers are seemingly more durable and their off road capability is far superior.

Also consider Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. They have a great balance of on road/off road and durability.

 

I would 2nd this. You can get load C or D in the Ridge Grapplers or Duratracs and not gain too much weight on the tire, but have some pretty formidable side wall. When you're in the middle of nowhere, you'll feel a lot more at ease.

 

ko2s are over priced garbage, so many better performing, cheaper options.
