I have an XR650L and I love it! After quite a bit of work, it's a stellar bike off and on road. IMHO, it's one of the best dual sport bikes out there.

yea I love them, I have wanted one for as long as I can remember

it is coming down the pipe line eventually, its the low maintenance machine I need

but it sure does make it hard with some of the nice newer lightly used ktm bikes popping up for sale

I get that. I've owned a lot of bikes of the years (cafe racers, motocross bikes, cruisers) and the XR is quite possibly my favorite. I've done a lot of work to it and I'm super pleased. It'll run 75 on the road comfortably and then rip in the woods with ease. It is a heavy bike but once you get used to it, it's a breeze to ride!

What are your plans for it - ride mostly dirt, pavement, or mix of both?

    the xr650l would be both

in time I would prob try out sumo wheel, but might also have a dedicated knobby, first would try out some of these dot knobbies though

I planned on getting a nice used one, but part of me wants to get a fresh zero miles one and get to experience all the changes as I go through uncorking and modding etc.

I started with true 50/50 tires and HATED them! Now I'm running a hard compound 90/10 on front and rear and they're great.

I got mine from a old farmer that only put 5,000 miles on it over the course of 6 years. He babied it, so I was lucky to find it. I started with the obvious mods that you mentioned and then started to put more money into. I've learned a lot about these bikes over the years, so feel free to ask any questions if you end up getting one.

I also was doing some research, and Id get the 62 or the Icon. I dont need the Desert Sled, especially at $12k msrp. I need something much less $. Or hopefully a straight trade for my bike, and ill continue the payments on the Ducati

I had a buddy that had one of the Bonnevilles with the fake carbs on it. I had to convince him that it was actually fuel injected and just designed with throttle bodies that look like it was carbureted.

I wish we had some SD weather right now. Soupy as shit out.

Anything further with blacking out the forks?? And it looks like you still have the reflector on the rear fender. :boink:

I would say it’s going to dangerous having a shop to put bikes into but I don’t have any money left to buy toys :annoyed:
