So what is the test we have come up with to figure out if we have a problem or not? I'll run mine through the gauntlet this weekend to test it out. I hear 2x4s and 4x4s and curbs and...

What actually do I need to do to test this?

    Hi guys,

The crawl control is simply a low speed, low range cruise control. It functions regardless of MTS or incline or anything else. It sounds like the OP and others have 2020 models where its not working. Simple as that. There's no trick to it. It will work on flat ground, but it jerk forward as there is no resistance. Just put truck in 4lo, select either D or R, push crawl button and release brake pedal. Truck should move. If it disengages without you pressing the button again, or shifting to park or neutral, its not working correctly. Just get the dealer to fix it.

And for the uneducated that are saying its useless and a gimmick, don't listen to their ignorance. Its like ABS, fuel injection, and everything else electronic in our new vehicles. Its another tool, and an amazing one at that. Computers are better than us at many things, CC is one of those things when used in certain situations.

OP: don't settle for anything other than having that working. Its Toyota's mistake and they need to fix it. Good luck!

I just Emailed Toyota Corporate support this:

    "Hi,

I recently bought a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road DCLB in April of this year. I noticed that the crawl control is not able to go uphill or over obstacles in any of the 5 speed settings. If I put both tires next to a residential 6.5" curb and turn on crawl control, nothing happens. If I manually give it gas, it will go over the curb and I can hear the ABS noise start to kick in. There are many others with this issue on their 2020's and for the price we pay for our vehicles, we expect all features advertised to work properly on a brand new vehicle. Here is a TacomaWorld forum with many others having the same issue: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crawl-control-not-working.657481/page-15
Here is a YouTube video of someone who posted the issue, my issue is the exact same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nuBA_pFBQc
Please advise on what can be done to resolve this issue or if there is a recall in the works."

I'll let you all know what I hear back as well.

There is more to the story.

    1. He tried to convince me that the statement in the manual where it says without accelerator or brake input, that doesn’t mean no accelerator input as it says to keep a steady speed. I will get a pic of the actual statement.
    2. He did confirm the software version is different
    3. He did collect lots of data going up the incline.
    4. He admitted, not to me, that he had done no research on crawl before coming out to review my case.
    5. He said there were no codes
    6. He did not seem concerned about others having the issue(I mentioned tacomaworld)
    7. He said they appreciate customer feedback (I didn’t get a good feeling on that)
    8. He did not provide me any contact information and said I would hear something if they found something
    9. He said there would need to be more complaints (that is why I feel that it will not get addressed)
    10. He wanted to drive a comp vehicle but my dealer had nothing with crawl control on the lot.

I spent three hours at the dealership.

If I remember more I will post that

Dude, that blows... I have put off getting a front locker because my CC has been coming in clutch in tricky spots... This issue would seriously harsh my cool. Hope you get it fixed, man

2020 TRD OR, DCSB. Manufactured 11/19 in Baja. Crawl control climbed a curb like it wasn't there, starting with wheels against the curb and in the first position. Also crawled into and out of a fairly steep ditch, probably 3 feet deep in the middle and about 5 feet wide. No issues as far as I can tell but will be sure to get in some additional testing this weekend.

I have a 2020 white off-road built in November 2019 in Baja as well. It seems to work fine in real life trail usage but it will not climb over the curb from a point of tires resting against it.

Choke front wheels with wood 4x4's and rear with 2x4's. Curbs have all different shapes and sizes depending on your location, lumber is standardized. Plus a member with different years provided his 2020 could not, while his 2019 could climb it.

Mine doesn't work at idle. If I recall correctly is 02/20 in Mexico. I was kinda ticked, till I thought to give a touch to the gas and up I went on a 20 to eventually 30degree sandy hill with no sweat. I think it might be a safety update. Made me miss my JKUR less and less, and love this truck more and more.

Yeah I'm also wondering if they made it a safety feature so it doesn't continue to crawl if you accidentally run someone over on the trails lol. I'd be fine if they came out with a statement that they made the change of manual gas input for obstacle climbing... The not knowing if it's an actual issue or not is what is concerning.

no throttle is required on pre 2020 models (not all 2020s are affected).

go test drive one and you will see.

also, the books says “without” accelerator or brake.

I need to test my 2020 TRD Off-Road when I get a chance. I bought it in February and have never tried crawl control

Wait... all these 2020 owners have CC that works when given throttle? I thought the hills or residential curbs everyone is using to test out their CC was stopping the truck in their tracks... so there really isnt anything to complain about, really... other than not having what other people have, i guess lol

The point being made was not to celebrate that they were climbing curbs or driving over 4x4 lumber using cc, but rather that for some reason some people's cc is not functioning correctly and isn't able to do something as straightforward as that. Also easier to test multiple vehicles across the country under similar conditions.

Lol the point of CC is to have no driver input except for steering, so I would say that's something worth complaining about. A key feature for the Offroad model should work as advertised.
