I was thinking of getting this to clean up my engine bay, free up some room for maintenance tasks, and get rid of that ugly-as-sin resonator on the factory air inlet tubing. I'm wondering how much it would effect the tune since it retains the factory air box, and if anyone recommends against it. I would rather deal with the ugly resonator than negatively effect the tune.

For those reasons, I went with the HPS intake tube and deleted the engine cover and brackets. It does make access a lot easier. I also yanked the secondary charcoal filter in the lid.

There was zero effect on the tune as far as I could tell, but I am sticking with the OE paper filter since we have the same airbox as the 5.7l. Folks have dyno'ed the truck with no air filter and showed no gains. I do have K&Ns on everything else. :D

There is some more growl when the ACIS is open and it pairs well with my pre-axle dump, which added the right amount of exhaust noise for me.

The way I understand the intake resonator to work is that it gives an expansion area for the intake wave pulses(sound waves) travelling back up through the intake tube. The pulses are caused by the intake valves opening and closing and those pulses travelling back up will cause the intake flow to be inconsistent and can affect performance. By mitigating the intake pulses with an expansion area you get a cleaner air flow and more consistent cylinder filling. By eliminating the box the pulses travel all the way up the intake and you get all the glorious intake sound but also can run into compromised performance.

I think it's only for noise reduction but what you described may be correct in theory, I'm not positive. Practically speaking, I've never noticed a decrease in performance after deleting a factory intake tube or air box and that theory seems like it would only make much sense when the engine is not drawing much vacuum.

You don't like it dirty? I like it dirty. :D

In the lid of the airbox. It is said that pulling it helps the 2.7l. I didn't notice anything, but less is moar, right?

I did the same. Looks a lot cleaner and changes engine sound. I do use an aFe Pro filter. That charcoal filter is really dense.

will you have all the beta tunes available in editable versions of VF also. Specifically build 0944. That build was easily the best shifting version for my setup and I'd either like to modify that build with some of the 2.0 final treats or input the shift parameters of 0944 to the final 2.0

Haha, I actually took my aftermarket intake out and put the stock one back in. That thing was so freaking loud my ears would ring after a 10hr drive. Thought i could learn to like it but after a year and a 5000 mile drive across country it had to go.

TCU update is almost done, then we have a massive vF Tuner update coming with full logger, TCU controls, and many more goodies.

(this isn't even half... there is still torque converter locking,unlocking...)

If the AT folks are not happy with that, then . . .

    Nice work!
