Help picking new tires ...

Ridge Grapplers are my number one choice, I think. Still considering the other two but they are in the lead at this point. Really interested in the Toyo tires (they are a bit less) and very curious about the Pirelli's as a wild card. But the place I am getting my tires says that inventory on the Toyo's is almost nil and he is having a hard time locating the Pirelli's. We are talking tomorrow to see what he has been able to get so I can look at them in person. He already has the Ridge Grapplers in stock.

Also, am I wrong? I thought the K02 was number one in the market? I thought I heard that or something along the lines that it was the industry benchmark or something like that. I ask because I don't know.

 

From my personal experience, for all terrains I've ran k02s, toyo at2, falken wildpeak atws, out of those three the ko2s were the worst for on and off road performance. Durability and tread life they are a close second to the falkens so ill give them that. I personally wouldn't buy them without seriously looking at other brands considering how much they cost (falken, cooper, toyo, general tire ect.) but that's just me.

 

I've got To AT2's in 265/75r16, C load. They have been very tough and surprisingly good in mud and permafrost for an AT. They are pretty loud at highway speed though, and not so good in snow and ice. I had hankook ATM'a on my last truck and they were pretty awesome all around, especially in the snow and ice. Of course they weren't as good in mud as the Toyos.

I will probably move back to the hankook or the Cooper AT3 for my next set. The highway drone is that annoying to me.

 

Has anyone tried the Hankook AT2 tire? My old truck had the ATM tire on it and I liked them for what I do.

I really like the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. I had them on my Silverado 2500HD a few years ago. My Tacoma is fairly new (only 15K miles) and I'm still on the stock michelins. When I use those up, I'm getting the Revos (one size up: 265/65-18 rather than the stock sized 265/60-18).

 

Yeah, I've run just about every tire out there as I happen to have access to a large fleet of 4X4's with AT's as part of my job. I've also been running BF Goodrich AT's on my own personal trucks and Jeeps since the early 90's...The K02's are without a doubt the best all-around AT's I've ever had. I guess everyone has different tastes but to call the best-rated tire on the market right now garbage is a bit dramatic.

 

Precisely. Not trying to start a dick measuring contest, but exaggerated statements are not helpful and inaccurate. I live in central PA & we have it all. Rocks, ridges, mountains, mud, gravel, snow, ice, rain, etc. & they’ve never let me down and I’ve been running either the originals or the new ones since 1996.

 

I just purchased a set of Falken AT3W and so far my truck is pulling to the right. May be a balancing issue or radial pull, either way it is disappointing since the tires look really good. BFG KO2 is probably going to be my next set.

 

Small world, I grew up in Beaver County PA. You're right...PA has it all, including some downright nasty winters. Spent my early 20's out in the Black Hills of South Dakota, another place that has it all. I traveled all over the West in a 1992 Jeep sitting on BFG's. Those tires never let me down and they lasted forever.

So yeah, total garbage man.

 

Dang man, I almost went with those. I had driven a set at work and they seemed pretty good but when it came to decision time I just rolled with the K02's out of loyalty for all the years I've been using them. Now that they've been on my new truck for a month I'm pretty happy I went with them.

I would have saved a few bucks had I gone with the Falkens and right before I was getting ready to put tires on I had just spent a small fortune on my lift kit. Thankfully I talked myself out of being frugal.

I mean, who needs money anyway!

 

well if its the only tire you have ever ran I can see how its easy to say they are the best when you have no other comparison

 

I used to love my Toyo OC A/T and then M/T's for 3 seasons each year until winter when they became completely useless. I've switched over to Duratrac's and absolutely love em.

Might of been exaggerated to a point, might not of been, either way there still at the bottom of my list.
