Odd rubbing noise? (HELP PLEASE)

Update: transfer case was totally dry and had hardly any oil/fluid left in it. Not sure if it had a leak, but they also said the oil didn’t smell like gear box oil and instead smelled like tranny fluid... so thinking that the previous owner here put tranny fluid inside the t-case instead of what he was supposed to put in there. Or he took it to some sketch shop. They’re putting more fluid in it right now and hopefully the bearings aren’t seized or anything inside the transfer case. We will see

New transfer case isn’t very expensive and worse case scenario I need to buy a new t-case for a couple hundred.

 

are you going to check what fluid is in the front diff while you are at it?

They changed the transmission fluid, t-case fluid, and greased my zerks on my driveshaft. T-case is no longer making noise (from what I can hear), and it costed 120$ in total for the service. Reasonable price around here from what my buddy said. They recommended a transmission shop for me but I think my transfer case is going to end up being fine since I only drove a few miles with the noise (maybe 10 in total) once it started happening, and it is a Toyota. The transmission shop they recommended me was prolly one of their partner shops anyways. I think I’m just gonna run my truck in 2wd around town until the new fluid is able to settle in and so fourth.

front differential is disabled if ADD is off.

 

Making the noise again idk what’s up with her it was fine for 2 days after now it’s doing it again

 

Theoretically speaking, if I needed a new t-case would this be the right type to get? My truck is a manual with locking hubs

 

You mean a J shift?

There are two types, j shift and push button

 

yeah I have a j shift. Manual hubs up front. Is this the right type of t-case I would need to look for?

I hate ebay listings.

V6 is 23 spline and Inline 4 is 26 spline on the input shaft so be wary of that.
