Mystery nut and bolt for tightening the alternator belt. Sherlock Homes this for me please

So I had to replace my belts and with the alternator I notice I didn't have the nut that secures the little "T" bolt thing that goes through the slide area and is connected to the tension bolt.

Then I was disconnecting the piezo and I found a random nut lying in the engine bay. I thought it was my lucky day and figured it was the nut for the alternator. Tried it on and it was too big. Slid right over my threads.

So ordered the nut from Toyota.

Nut gets here today and it is the same nut that I found. Both are too big, unless I am missing something.

I feel like that T bolt is a pretty specific part so unless that isn't OEM what gives?

Bonus points if anyone can tell me the pitch dimensions of their bolt, not the nut.

 

It is either a M8x1.25 or M10x1.25 unless someone cobbled something together to get running.

if I did not just get out of the shower I would go double check.

Did you lose the nut ?

How did the belt stay tight ??

The pivot bolt must have been really cranked

 

Your local dealer has " Exploded Views " of this for all to see in the parts department . and with the right VIN# you can probably see it on line.
unless you are the original owner of the truck, it is quite possible someone "cobbled something together" as Wyoming 09 suggested.
If you go to replace the fasteners be sure they are Grade 8. Toyota will have the correct parts.

So can any one confirm what size their bolt is? Mine is M8x1.25. Both nuts I have including the one from the dealer is M10x1.25.
I read another thread and two people posted M8x1.25, but they were 2.7 versions. I am 3.4.

 

Logic says it the nut you bought was M10x1.25 and was to big it pretty much has to be M8x1.25

Did you look up the number ??Parts get picked wrong all the time . My dealer had one former employee out of 10 part numbers the Parts Manager looked up 1 was correct . Got to the point I said don`t let him near my orders

Toyota is good for not using strange odd sizes .

I guess I am spoiled by being able to just go to the bolt bin grab what I need .

Lots of other M8 x1.25 nuts you could borrow and check in the engine compartment .(Left front corner of the intake manifold )

Then you never know when something odd ball was used to complete the job.

Possible someone used a 5/16"x18 or 24 bolt in there !!

Being this is buried under the alternator maybe someone changing an alternator will be able to tell you 100%

Take the t-bolt slide thingy off and take it to a hardware store?

 

I just used a caliper and a thread pitch measurer (I am sure there is a proper name for it, like t-bolt thingy) so I know it is M8x1.25. I already said that, and I already put a new nut on it, but why are two Toyota nuts for it the wrong size? I just wanted to see what other peoples bolts were to see if there is one size or two that are getting put in there.

 

Could the toyota nut be for the pulley itself? I remember that one being a bit bigger than the tensioner.

 

Hmmm I don't think so cause I was able to move everything around.

I also can't find it on Partsouq so I have no idea what the part number is

 

There's also one that locks the whole assembly in place. Maaaaybe?

 

Parts bagged wrong .This happens to often then people picking just go buy the number having no idea what they are getting

Online Catalogs can be wrong !!

I have seen errors cost one customer over $100,000.00 in the wrong parts being ordered from a mistake on a website catalog .
