I put down a deposit 6 weeks ago on a black access cab offroad , with manual transmission and was told October . Dealer called today and said he couldn't get one and that i would be getting a 2021 in late October , or November . So what's new for 2021 ?

My apologies.. I was just trying to help. I took your post about pre Covid pricing and thought I would save you trouble of researching and asking many people by pointing towards some very well outlined research from pre-covid times from taco buffet regarding an ideal area to shoot for in terms of percent off of MSRP... which is what I thought you wanted. Sorry I missed the leasing portion. Most people in this thread were financing and I have no input for leasing either :) Good luck and sorry for the help that didn't help at all haha.

Don't feel bad. I thought I was the one being long winded. :). And also trying to help. The deck is stacked in favor of the house and this forum is just trying to help people navigate it as much as possible.

So this dealer finally got the truck I've been waiting for.
Dealer marked it up 4,995 for the TRD wheels and beefy tires.

I had an offer that I passed up in April, the same truck minus the wheels and tires for 39.5 k before tax and fees (Costco and 1750 incentive).

I believed the COVID-19 dream, that prices would drop more.

    They obviously didn't.
Now I really regret passing on it.

Now they're saying 47.2k with the 1k rebate, no COSTCO discount.

I may have to wait for next year.

forget that I wouldn’t play that game for a minute. A Tacoma is probably the only vehicle I’d pay MSRP for and even these trucks can go at a discount normally. No way I would pay over MSRP. Crazy stealerships

Some of these dealers are INSANE! Seeing some with sales price over MSRP on their dealer website.

I wonder if this is a regional phenomenon? I have no evidence of this but it might be. This is the dealer I bought from in CT. Very nice people, by the way. No huge mark up here. They are a smaller family run dealer, get their allotment and sell everything they get. Right now they only have one on the lot but price is reasonable:

For sure, market demand. AZ/CA/TX all report being sold out of Tacomas. Here in IL still some ORs w/prem packages and w/out lying around and have been for some time. Tacoma's arent really popular here I noticed, when I was in AZ, everyone and their sister, mom, brother, grandma, cousin drove a Tacoma.

I'm new here, but I hope this board isn't one of the many where people jump all over every little thing other people say, using terms like "narrow minded" and "ignorant". It was just a throwaway statement, not an attempt to start a debate. It was just a gut feeling based on personal experience. I have a professional job at a University (13,000 employees, none laid off, aside from cleaners and some food servers) where we've been working from home since March. I also had a one day a week job bartending at a hotel because I enjoy bartending. They closed the entire hotel with no notice. 350 people made unemployed in the blink of an eye. Since most professional jobs are capable of being done remotely, and most hourly service jobs are not, I figured that the impact of covid is greater at the bottom rungs of the job market. That doesn't mean that some white collar people aren't affected. I just believe the impact isn't as bad. Also https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommyb...rners-hit-hardest-by-job-losses/#55f1bfc95d89

I don't know if this is truly the best deal ever. But I've been in the dealer 3 times for the last year trying to negotiate Taco's, but never liked the terms and walked. This is what I ended up getting. These numbers aren't exact. I'm pulling them from memory.

2020 TRD OR, 6MT, Cement, Premium pkg, Technology pkg. No trade in. 2 year lease.
    Toyota of Portland. Portland, OR
    MSRP - $42,400
    Negotiated Price - $38,200
    Residual Value - $32,000 (about 80%)
    Annual Miles - 12k
    Money Factor - .00140
    Payment - $275

I'll decide at the end of the lease if I want to keep it or not. I'm on the fence at the moment, although most people seem to think that the truck is pretty sweet.

I learned that leases on Tacoma's were suddenly excellent from watching this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CbcTvCz80A.

Its usually not but when you make said statements expect to be called out for them. We are a loving fun bunch and apologies if you feel unwelcomed, but your statement/post was exactly that. Congrats on the new truck.

Totally makes sense. I mean California and Texas pretty much drive the truck market for the entire country from what I have read. Given that, I wonder if a smart strategy would be to find a great truck in the East (possibly North), cut the deal and then have it delivered. I bet if the price was good, and the dealers in the West were jacking up the MSRP, you could practically do that and still save thousands. Not sure if that would work but it could be an interesting option. Just a thought.

Don't feel bad. I've been called out even when I am factually correct. :). There are a lot of people here who think that arguing these things is like life and death and frankly some of the people are pretty downright rude. I don't have the time or energy for those folks. I will tell you this. I am a novice. Don't know that much about these trucks so I come here to learn and figure things out. The helpful people here far outnumber any of the bummers. I've gotten help on buying my truck, getting new tires, solving problems, etc. One time, on a Saturday, I was trying to install steps on my older Tacoma (2005). Couldn't get the bolts to screw into the frame because the holes were rusted. Posted a note and got great advice on how to clean the holes out, thread new bolts properly, etc. The help, insight and advice here totally makes it worth the time. Best of luck to you and hope you stick around.

This is what I mean. I wonder if anyone from the West would fly out, pick it up (stay in the awesome Finger Lakes area) and drive it back -- or have it shipped -- and manage to still save several thousand dollars. I don't know but I wonder if this is a reasonable strategy?

Think he was referring to his covid related post, which a) he was not correct and only based on his perspective which is fine we all have our own, but doesn't make them right or should be expressed in said way as was expressed (low wage service, etc.) and b) a friendly reminder about covid posting https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/staff-statement-and-code-of-conduct-reminder.659426/

Now back to pricing discussion / buying tips.

Oh. Did not see that. Thanks. Hope I do not get in trouble. I might have to self-ban.
