About buying at close and selling the next day. I think it can work well under the right conditions.

I've been following NAIL for a bit. I got in yesterday 15 minutes before close at $27.02. Today it closed at $29.65. That's a 10% return if I would have sold. I kept it because I think there is more upside.

The conditions I used are the 50 day simple moving average, MACD, and VWAP. At about 10am yesterday the MACD crossed to a sell signal. The shares sold of pretty sharpy from the days high. 30 minutes before close it was trading .75¢ below the VWAP and about $1 below the 50 day. 20 minutes before close the MACD started to converge. 15 minutes before close the MACD flattened. Those 3 things had me pretty sure there was upside coming. I bought 100 shares.

Today all signals where there that the uptrend was still intact 15 minutes before close. It's trading above VWAP. It's above the 50 day and dragging the 50 day up with it. The MACD signal line was crossing above the average line at end of day. So I think tomorrow it will run up a few more percent. I'll let you know how that goes.

(Not a political post) As it gets closer to the election, if the market thinks Biden will win the election, what are some companies/sectors you think will benefit from that? My oil heavy portfolio probably wouldn’t do to well

nah you’re good to keep it related to economy and stock buying. If you were to go off on a rant one way or another about how one person winning will benefit x y z and how that’s good/bad in your opinion that’s a whole different story.

I think pharma would benefit from a Biden win.

Nope. They got removed from my watch list a month ago. I don't do bankrupt companies anymore. I'm still holding one that I'll possibly never recover from.

WLL seemed like a sure bet at $1.66 a share. So I got a bunch of it. Now, at $1.06 a share, I'm selling monthly calls to try and recoup some losses. By 2023 I should have recouped them all. If they don't get de-listed first.

Then there's my great REIT idea with MFA. Got in at a bargain at $3.66 a share. Again, I picked up a lot of shares. Then they decided to go into forbearance. That shot them right down to $2.10 a share. They've since gotten out of forbearance but haven't moved off the mid $2 range. So, I'm selling monthly covered calls on them. They did re-instate their div so if that hits my account on July 31st I'm cutting my losses.

Why did I get caught with 30% losses on both? Because I'm an idiot. I didn't set a stop loss because I really, truly, believed they had both hit rock bottom. Then they just kept sinking. I still think they'll both recover I just don't know if I have the patience to wait for it. Hence my reply up thread. Sometimes it's better to cut the losses and put that remaining money to work elsewhere. If I wasn't writing covered calls on them I would have bailed a long, long, time ago.

BTW pleasantly surprised to see I didn't LOSE any value in NRGU today :) And dammit VXX get down and stay down...The Up $1.50 for 1/2 the day and then back down isn't helping me...but you could daytrade the shit out of VXX

Oh, I've lost. My broker is nice enough to track that percentage of unrealized loss to the 2nd decimal. lol

It was like watching a slow motion train wreck. Still is kinda. I was so sure I was correct and they would both recover quickly. So the logical side of me at 10% loss was saying cut and run. The stubborn always right side of me was sticking to his guns. The stubborn side won and here we are. It's another lesson learned about stop losses and sticking to that plan. As it stands every time they don't go down I feel like I've won a small victory in my dumb ass quest to be correct about them both. Even though it's painfully obvious I was incorrect. lol

It all depends on the recovery this year. I’d throw most of that out the window this year. Reopening/recovery/vaccine will dominate the markets outlook. After that, then the other stuff can come back into play more. Really, a vaccine or recovery and return to semi normal activity will help your oil heavy portfolio far more than any political outcome might hurt it. Now, once recovered, then the policies put in place by an administration might alter things.

It's the irony of charting at work...if all the traders are charting and using indicators to decide when to buy then the stock is going to move when those price trends hit...and they do...because everyone is using that a buy signal...Is it a successful buy based on share price increase due to value or is it a share price increase due to response to indicators? It doesn't matter in the end because you get the same result...it's just that is it correlative or causative debate...

SJC Ruling on Tax returns public or not? I say they punt it back on a technicality...Don't get political...I do think it's in the best interest of the public that as a concession to running for office your tax returns might be made public after a review of the "Tax return review board" that decides if there is anything of concern...but where do you draw the line...does someone running for Board of Selectman have to release their tax returns? Why not?

Yep. The indicators and signals are there for all to use. I'm starting to get it a little more refined but I still interpret them wrong sometimes. Looks like I got it correct with NAIL for today. It's up .54¢ pre-market. I'll probably set a trail today at open.

For the second week in a row NVDA also blew through my strike price. I'll monitor it tomorrow and roll out and up if it doesn't pull back by lunch. BABA also went on a huge run this week and it's still running. Of course I had no play on it but it was fun to watch.

Just saw a funny commercial on CNBC about security robots. I decided to go to securityrobot.com. They are selling shares for $8 for 10 more days. Weird, but could make some money if the idea takes off.

    :annoyed:

My limit orders to buy hit already! It's too early in the day for that... Oh well, still averaging down, just not as much as I would later in the day. And as an investor, it doesn't really bother me as much as you traders. :) One day I will get some play-doh for that.
