2020 Wiring Diagram

Hey Guys, a while back TW was able to get me the full wiring diagram for my 2016 but now I have my 2020 and am looking to do a few new mods and some that I had done previously. The first one I am looking to do is replace the wireless charger as I had done in the 2016 but am now looking to try to utilize the existing USB circuits to power it with and installing a wireless car play for android auto to the only data USB. My hope would be to use a USB splitter/hub to retain the OEM data USB but have the carplay adapter cleanly hidden somewhere in the center console or under the gear shifter area. Appreciate any help!

If you need power, why wouldn’t you pull it from one of the cig 12v instead of trying to pull it from the usb for the head unit?

 

Exactly. Power should just be a 12v switched source (accessory circuit).

As far as converting your USB in the console from charging to a data capable port, you will need a USB hub that will work with the OEM head unit. Start off by plugging one into the existing USB data port and seeing if it works. If so, take things apart, and run the cables to the ports you want connected. Simple as that.

I seriously doubt that the factory schematics will have any type of specific data connection info. Most likely it is just 12v based connections or data bus for factory data controlled items. Not so much USB level data. I could be wrong, but I would definitely surprised if that kind of detail is in there.....

 

Sorry I did misspeak, I was meaning a 2nd usb data port tied into the DASH for the carplay adapter that could be hidden. I didnt know the dash usb data port came from the head unit but that makes sense. Still, I would like to know the capabilities of it as I sorta explain below.

So the Samsung QI chargers are pretty good about detecting if it is a capable phone before initiating charging. I get the want for a switched source but having ran one for years im pretty sure i'll be fine. Fuses are included of course just in case but I never put anything in the charging spot that isnt a phone and have never had an isssue.

I get that it likely wont have data connection specifics but I was hoping some scant details. likely USB 3.0 which I can make work with some kind of hub. I was going to run the charging for the QI charger from the center console ports but would like to see the layout and capacity of the ports and fuses. I pretty certain they are the ::high power kind:brainfog) which would could support the QI 9W charger, but would like to see for myself.

 

I am not a QI user, but a quick search turned up some unit on Amazon that has 7.5/10/15W charging and the amperage draw was a paltry 1.5 amps. If it were something hardwired to a 12V source, I would just go to the wiring that feeds your 12v plug in (old days called the cigarette lighter plug). Those circuits are always dummy proof, and are typically fused at 15A. The inline fuse on your charger will protect the charger/phone and you are all set.

 

Did you ever get the write-up done for how to do the install? I've been pondering this for quite some time and your threads are the closest I've seen to having it done.
