I read another thread discussing this topic but have a few more questions.

The quotes I have from my local dealer separate the SR5 and off-road by only $1500. Am I right to assume the lockers and upgraded bolt-on suspension are worth that?

I can’t see using the crawl mode personally but the lockers and better suspension are appealing. What’s the cost to add those features later on?

I’d say do it. I just got a quote to add a locker and it was 1900$. So if that’s something you value it sounds worth it

Absolutely worth it. I really regret not going with an OR.

Plus you get the 8.75” diff in the OR

I’d definitely get the OR over the SR5 for that little amount of money

Thanks for the quick replies, seemed like a no brainer for the extra $1500 but wanted a second opinion.

You are overlooking that the OR has ATRAC. There is no reason to not have that enabled at all times while in 4lo. I have yet to find any situation that the rear locker improved traction more than ATRAC, but I suspect I will find one. Also note that the OR does not have a front locker, so even when you are using the rear locker, you might as well have ATRAC enabled to get a simulated locker in the front.

ATRAC is only on the MT

The AT has MTS / Crawl Control

But yes, MTS / ATRAC is definitely worth it.

No doubt. A locker will run you at least that much. And you will never be able to retrofit ATRAC. This this a big reason why I bought the OR. The other reason was the manual transmission.

Other small goodies include the front recovery hook, air dam delete, and various aesthetic upgrades.

I believe ATRAC is called multi-terrain select on a AT with the additional ability to adjust the aggressiveness of the ABS brakes but I never owned a OR auto. Crawl control is different in that it controls the throttle unlike mt select and ATRAC, yes? Crawl control one might not use all the time, but there is little reason to not use mt select / ATRAC

Correct. MTS is basically ATRAC where you have sensitivity adjustments

Crawl control will control gas and brake, essentially 4lo cruise control

The OR also has the brake booster included as part of these systems.

I don't think anyone asked. Are you going to off-road it??

Ya the OR ABS brakes are much quieter than on the SR5. I thought read that they are electric rather than using engine vacuum, thus they can be used for longer periods of time. In any case, I’m fairly sure the ORs traction control system includes more than just upgraded electronics, as you said. People tend to overlook the system as just a gimmick.

Isn’t that a requirement for joining TW?

    None, yet
If there's only $1500 difference there's something going on there.

Offroads all have the extra trans cooler and tow package as well. Not to mention resale value for a trd optioned offroad has always been a huge selling point.

This ^, I'm willing to be 90% of OR owners will never need or use their locker, CC or MTS.

Not talking Toyotas but I had a friend ( long since passed on) who preferred an open rear diff to a locker or limited slip. And this gentleman USED his 4 wheel drives. That being said I have never owned a locker but I like limited slip.

I had the same dilemma last year and opted for the OR (though the difference in price was greater). The extra functionality of the OR seems to be a better value when considering potential use and resale. The OR was also optioned out better than the SR5. I know the SR5 now has a larger infotainment, carplay, and power seat, so the gap has closed. Too lazy to look, but does the SR5 still have a key ignition or did it go push button for 2020?
