I get a bit of extra mileage from my blades by wiping them with acetone on a paper towel, concentrating on running the towel on the edge of the blade, end to end. It gets rid of the oxidized rubber. I keep looking at silicon ones, but am still being cheap.

I got five years. Does the armature wear out and lose something? So. Cal. It's not plastic.

    The armature???
The rubber strip piece thing that contacts the windscreen is the 'insert'.
The blade is what the insert slides into. The blade is what keeps the tension on the insert to keep it seated against the glass.
The wiper 'arm' would be what the blade slides into and clicks and seats.
If we use the correct names I think we'll all understand each other better and what we're trying to communicate.

Are you asking does the blade wear out? Like, lose its springy tension that keeps the insert curved to the glass? If that's what you're asking, yes the blade can lose its ability to keep the insert pressed against and formed to shape of windshield.

Edit: the insert is also called a 'refill'. Couldn't think of the name and it just came to me. The blade refill or blade insert are the names I've seen and heard

Yes, bored. We know you used to be able to walk in and buy blades. You've said that with almost every post. You still can walk in a buy blade refills in some places. You can also order them online and not have to go anywhere. Even Toyota still sells them and will even ship them to you. Hows that for convenience.

Much of Colorado is technically a desert. I looked the other day, humidity was in the mid 20s. Grew up in Michigan and the Texas gulf coast. I understand hot and humid, and do not enjoy that AT ALL. I'd much rather buy wipers every year :D

    Here you go homie: https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/wiper+&+washer,wiper+blade+refill

I'm starting to remove my wipers in the summer here in AZ. Not worth letting them bake for 3 dry months.

Those guys... If it doesn't exist in their store, it must not exist

Shipping usually kills me from Rock Auto. But ya, buy in bulk at those prices. Get a 10 year supply for $30
