MSRP in Southern California for my 2020 TRD Pro MGM 6s M/T.

Had to wait about 3 months till Feb 2020 for my dealer to do a dealership swap.

Other dealers were trying to get me to pay $10k market adjustment fee.

They ended up trading an automatic Army Green to some dealer in the middle of the country.

Agreed, I've leased a bunch of cars in the past, the Tacoma is actually the first vehicle I've purchased. If I could have gotten the lease deal you did, I probably would have leased too. I just hope you didn't put too much down.

I just paid the first month, the doc fee, and for tags and registration up front. No down payment. My upfront cost was about $700.

And you know your speculation of how COVID-19 only impacted "low wage service jobs", etc. which you continue to defend and the reminder addresses why your statement was inappropriate but guessing you chose not to read it. Again welcome to TW.

I recently purchased (April 2020) a 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport with the technology package for 34800 plus tax and license it totaled around 37000 plus change out the door. I went through a broker (friend of my son) where he did the leg work for me. I believe it was a decent price, as I bought in a small window where at that time the COVID virus was causing panic in the car industry and the dealerships were panicking. Right now (July 2020) a used Tacoma are almost selling as much as the new Tacoma.

Relax, it was just an opinion, or speculation based on anecdotal evidence and personal experience. It's obviously not absolute, more like a trend. I did link an article in Forbes that discusses the issue and supports my contention, so I don't think I was off base. Anyway, I was just brainstorming why at the beginning of April dealers were, for once, cutting great deals on Tacoma's and how that contributed to the current under supply situation.

Usually brokers charge a flat fee or a stepped fee based on the purchase price.

The one I know of in Maryland was charging the customer the fee and working to get the buyer the best price. The dealership paid nothing for the service.
Services like true car and member/employee benefits services that are ran by true car are not the same. I heard the dealership pays about $1500 a month to participate in that.

Look up the YouTube channel "your auto advocate" they have a video about true car Costco.

OTD is very hard to say since we don't know your taxes etc. If you live in a state where there is tax though, that seems aggressive. But more power to you if you can get it!

Assuming you have ~8% taxes (no idea on your state so just a middle-of-the-road percent) and 500 in fees etc (not sure how normal that fee price is, but took a shot there as well) -

    (38k / 1.08) - 500 = $34.7k sale price

Which is about 83.5% of the MSRP in your form, or 16.5% off! That's better than most have gotten here, so would be great, especially since it sounds like many have locked down at MSRP or higher due to the shortage. Usually "good" is considered around 10-12% off MSRP, so you'd definitely be in "great" territory!

Anyway as you can see a lot of guessing above, so would need to know at least your state sales tax and fees to even take a guess. And that's why we don't usually like the OTD price here since its different for every state.

Sorry for the Doble post, i got a text saying that they can do 38.000k on this Sport. Almost 4k off Msrp. Not a bad deal but no the best one in my opinion.

Np, nice to see a fellow Minnesotan, especially a 6MTer! If $38k is your sales price (not OTD) then that is a pretty decent deal. Like I said you can usually shoot for 10% or so off, but given the current situation, I don't think ~9% is too bad. And you should be able to get the $1000 cash back from Toyota too, which would put you closer to 11% off in the end.

I'm getting an OR 6MT with Prem, Adv Tech, and LED (MSRP ~$42.6k) for about ~$39.4k from a more local dealer (south metro), but had that locked in pre-Covid. But they are a no haggle place and also had to order it, so I'm ok with that. Also looks like I should be able to get the $1000 cash back, which will be nice, and trade-in values have shot up I think due to the shortage of new vehicles, so that's another bonus (both on bottom line and lower difference in values will help with taxes too).
