Best way to warm your engine up is with more cycles of the piston. More cycles happen with more revs.

But really, until you are into super high performance built engines, there is plenty of tolerance to allow for differentiating thermal expansion rates between parts (namely the piston and cylinder)

Also just to add to this last message I wrote, there may have been recent tweaks to PCM software over the years to create limitations on the engine prior to reaching operating temp or close to it. The way manufacturers are integrating more and more tech as well as engine management into these new tech PCMs it wouldn't surprise me. Apparently GM and Ford are already doing it with the Coyote and the Vette engines (that makes sense though because GM and Ford are pioneers in engine management technologies), but then again those are very high compression engines so as mentioned by @snowsk8air2 tolerances on them have to be much tighter due to higher horsepower therefore it only makes sense that more protection must be integrated methodically into the engine management system.

For our trucks, I doubt there is any engine protection/ rev limitation management integrated tech built in, again Justin will have further insight into that, however, so what I'm saying could be wrong. I know my 2005 E40 PCM for my LS2 did not have anything of that nature, but even for it's time it had some very sophisticated tech that very much trumps over Toyota PCM tech of today.

There are multiple places in the 1GR tune where ECT is referenced, namely in the timing area. There are at least 5 tables and a few other fields. These are just the ones we can see with HPT. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there are more that we can't see.

This is very true. Being that HPTuners has our trucks PCM in beta mode only and not in finalized stage form there are a lot of unnamed tables which are are being utilized which we have no control over or even know what they do.

If it were GM on the other hand... Those guys get all the fun toys. Jerks.

You should see the tune for the newer Mustangs. There are a dizzying amount of tables. Makes the 1GR tune look like child's play.

Generally speaking, no, there is nothing that will limit power in our ECU's due to cold ECT's, however one thing to keep in mind that knock control isn't active until ECT are 140deg F. So should something happen (bad fuel, or anything else really) before you reach that threshold. You literally have nothing protecting your engine. Something to keep in mind.

So I texted the previous owner of my truck and he found a 2.7 pulley that I am going to pick up tomorrow. Would I need a tune for going from a 2.5 to a 2.7?

P.S. I am also going to text him to try and get his TacomaWorld username so we can all get some history on my truck!

Not sure if this is the right area for this, but here is my question. I am looking to add auxiliary power to my truck, and really like the setup from Overland Equipped. My problem is that my intercooler reservoir for my supercharger Sits right where the auxiliary power goes. Has anyone ran into this problem? If so, what was the work around? I was thinking I could re-locate the reservoir, but not sure how big of a pain in the ass that would be. Any suggestions?

Pretty much everyone who had one there. You have a couple options. Some people ran the resi to the passenger side. I thought about doing this but ended up putting a dual battery setup there. Depending what you plan to mount there are a couple "shorter" plates for mounting fuse panels and such. I am talking with a guy at Paranoid Fab in San Diego about making a custom one that will mount my switch pro, blue sea fuse block and a couple distribution blocks. I plan to go length wise instead of towards the engine working around to accomodate the resi. I mentioned that if he can pull it of there may be a few other S/C guys that would be interested.

here are 2nd and 3rd gen ones he makes. instead of the wider versions that other companies make.

This is the 2nd Gen off the shelf with ATRAK he makes

    upload_2020-7-9_22-5-49.jpg

this is the 3rd gen one he makes (MESOjdm designed it but he made it) I like this design as it bolts up to the same point that resi bolts into. I mocked up a design with cardboard and should work if he can bend and cut to my dimentins with the switch pro at one end for an option.

    upload_2020-7-9_22-7-23.jpg

this is a cardboard mockup. It’s higher due to the coolant lines below and the switch pro would be another inch lower to accommodate the hood etc.

I would be totally interested in this. I really wanted a simple setup like this one, but vertically in that space. I don’t need the switch pro

yah the switch pro really would be on the end so would not be that much different. you may be able to use his standard ATRAK version for 2nd gen. Just ping him and tel him you need some holes. It wuld fit a 6 fuse bluesea and breaker easily maybe more. Or get similar to what im talking about which would be wider but shorter than the one you posted.

Thanks for the true facts, fellas. Knowledge is power, preserved. I wonder if the "Gaurdian" feature in the UCON offers anything for me during those low temps?

Is this what we are talking about?
If so, is any certain adapter recommended? I'll be able to get boost AND vacuum here right?
BTW, It is the Speedhut boost gauge, assuming the part in the lower pic.
