I run 4 straps on my kayaks always. I see plenty of people on the highways with only two, but, because I want to be able to drive down long bumpy dirt roads and four wheel drive roads with the kayaks, I always tie them down with 4 straps each and they never move.

I run the standard two tie downs to the jay hooks. Then instead of tie downs to the bumpers, I tie all four into the roof rack.

I just tie the front of the kayak back to the roof rack, and the same with the back. Two opposite forces pulling the kayak in towards the roof rack. These kayaks have gone something like 10k miles on my roof rack this way, with no issues And no movement.

Made my own that is using the same extrusions as the Prinsu for $300. All aluminum except for the L brackets that mount to the truck.IMG_20200612_185508.jpg IMG_20200424_173108.jpg MVIMG_20200428_165140.jpg

I have owned the Front Runner Slimline II and the Prinsu. I purchased the FR on Craigslist for a steal. It was fantastic but it sits very high and is heavy. It is very beefy though and like others have said you can stand on it no problem. It just feels like part of the truck.

I swapped out for the Prinsu because I couldn't find a camper shell FR. The Prinsu looks waayyyyy better IMO but the finish isn't nearly as nice as the FR and it's not as beefy. I got an amazing deal on the Prinsu roof and shell racks.

The Prinsu is quieter and is very easy to modify but it's not easy finding bolts for the 80/20 slots.

If I had to do it again I would have gotten the Prinsu first but I have no Regerts about the FR. Both hold their value extremely well on the secondary market. I sold the FR in like 8 days.

I have a Cali Raised bumper light bar that I like. I don’t even want to know how much I’ve spent on my truck, but $800 or more for a light bar seems crazy. I have also talked to a few people about how they light up any and all dust or snow or rain in the air in front of you and you can’t see shit with them on in those conditions. I have no experience, but it’s worth considering.

I have a mix of Baja Designs and Rigid for the lights I use most. My front and rear roof rack bars are from China.

I should be getting my Cali Raised Premium Roof Rack this week with the LED light bar and 360° lighting. I’ll drop some pics once I get it installed.

I was trying to hit the highlights really but after reading all the posts on this thread I see I missed A LOT of racks. Apparently there are quite a few manufacturers of roof racks for our trucks.

GOPR1892.jpg I use Yakima. The custom Yakima landing 24 can be used on the front for a more permanent install. I currently use Round Bars, looking at upgrading to HD bars/Lock-n-Load. This was the last weekend, 3 kayaks loaded.

I have a prinsu on my 09 and going to have pelican cases with recovery gear and other stuff and it's great and all. The only complaint I have is that it's really noisy down the freeway especially when theres high winds. Besides that it's a great roof rack, slim sturdy and my favorite thing about it is that its low profile to the roof.

I insulated the roof. Big help with the noise and especially beneficial with the south GA heat!
