Why not just be like me? I have an extreme aversion to not being able to breathe as well. So I just run slow but run for fucking evar.

It's funny I can Sprint no problem but doesn't seem to help for my mile time let alone mile and a half ... I'm going to take you guys advice have to run longer distances like 3 to 5 miles at least 2 times a week, see if that helps.

The Stone IPA is ok.... I don’t usually want one of those if I choose to have a beer. It’s in there for the odd occasion I want one though. My go to is normally Mind Haze by Firestone Walker. It’s the best on tap

Physio research shows you should maintain a pace for two minutes or longer to really get adaptations to running at that speed.

you can sprint all out for a 1/4 mile??? And then repeat it 8-10 times???

I would encourage you to try it, time yourself and report back with your 1/4 mile sprint time on number 1 vs number 10

it sounds like this is some sort of military or law enforcement test from the distance.

all of the military prep courses had a long day (running at a 9 min mile for 5-6 miles) mid day (2-3 miles @ 7-7:30 min or so pace) and a sprint day. Similar to what I described above. Worse was 1/4 mile run followed by 1/4 mile lunge walk and repeat it for 2 miles. My legs were SHOT

A 1/4 sprint for him will take him 2 min at his pace.

I got my idea from some high school track stars who got full rides to colleges. It really worked for me. That and I had a hill that was about 3/4 mile downhill. My times dropped like crazy

I run very differently if I plan on running 3-5 miles vs 1 mile to 1 1/2 miles.

I really don’t know what “sprints” are or what qualifies as a sprint (I’m not a track runner), I just know looking at the research I have 2 minutes or longer is about the sweet spot.

It was just a statement of info I wasn’t arguing for or against anything.

Hahaha!! You almost had me impressed!! ;).

Basic idea Is getting your legs going at the right speed. I haven’t run in 7 months and my legs are telling me I am running too slow. I have to keep an eye on my times because I am not physically capable of doing that yet.

Run 3-4 times a week. Make sure only one of them is a long run and it’s really just a conditioning run. That one you will just want to chill, listen to music and get it done.

sprint day and mid range day, watch your times. (Maybe start with 1/8 mile sprints). End of the day, your “sprints” will turn into more of a fast mile time (probably around a 6-6:30 pace).

mid range, find a middle time. Something that pushes you and you have a little bit of trouble keeping up with on mile 3.

be patient with yourself. It took me a month in a half or so before I really saw much difference in time. Then it just dropped like crazy

Ran 2 mile and 1/4 tonight after work ... slow about 23 minutes but not winded.

Good idea on 1/8 or half a lap, then walk a half etc .. work my way to the 1/4

This is for leo quals but also just want to be better fit overall ... without losing too much muscle. Only 230 but slower than my partner who is a fatter 275 ..both of us are around 6'1

(slower the longer we run at faster pace, during say a 100 yard sprint I got a slight edge)

409DF62B-3836-45EC-9F87-99F937B4B6A2.jpg I had to google it lol. 6 hours north in Deadhorse, the sun will set and not rise again for a few weeks. You don’t want to have anything to do with it. It was -40° for about a month last winter, vehicles won’t run unless plugged in, I pop vitamin D pills like a fat kid on Halloween. All I do is work, eat, sleep and train most of the winter, last year I ran a short trap line as well. It would be cool to come up for a few days in the winter but there wouldn’t be anything to do but freeze your nuts and go to the hot springs maybe.
I dream of buying land and relocating to Idaho.

I struggle with the long days of summer here. I like the darkness of winter. I get like 9-10 hours of sleep a night and feel great.

But I imagine that little sunlight is pretty extreme.

-40F is like the summit of Everest lol I’d need to wear a parka jumpsuit everywhere lol

You’ll get there man. We’re the same size 6’1 225-230. I’ve had all my 1.5 pt tests under 10 minutes just by keeping a basic schedule. Even managed a 6:23mile for our swat tryout. You can still run relatively well for a bigger guy, despite what everyone else says.
