Foot care & athletes foot.....

Please pardon the 'gross factor'.
Every year in the summer time, I get athletes foot mildly and always have the appropriate powders, creams, etc to get rid of it until the next flare up. It's something I deal with every year.

I work in a factory. I wear steal toed leather boots/shoes with white socks. I have 3 pairs of shoes for work that I rotate daily. I put powder in my shoes probably monthly. All this usually works.... it comes and goes depending on my schedule. I work a lot of 12 hours and I move around a lot, and the feet do sweat.

So, within the last week or so - its been worse than I've ever seen it in years. I should probably change my shoes/socks mid-day but I don't always have time at work to do that. I know this shit can 'live' in your shoes and keep re-infecting you...but how the hell do you get it out of your shoes if sprinkling anti-fungal powder in them isn't working? I'm half thinking I need new shoes...but damn...really didn't wanna have to do that (all 3 pairs??).

Also thinking of getting one of those foot soaker things. They say epsom salt soakers are supposed to be good for your feet and help kill the athletes foot....

Yeah, just lovely. I'm the old hag who works in a factory who has retarded co-workers and has athletes foot! That's depressing....

Any suggestions, thoughts...... ??

I struggled with athlete's foot, toenail fungus, and a bunch of other "fungi" for about 20 years....I finally went to a dermatologist, and was prescribed a med to take internallly. It was a few years ago...and I'm an old fart, so I don't remember how long I took the med.....for about 9 months, I think.....once a week (I believe).
That stuff was great! Fungus free now for about 5 years.....and I wear steel-toed boots everyday to work.
They will have to do a liver enzyme test prior and during the treatment, as the med can cause liver problems in some people.

Other than that.....epsom salts does help....but it will come back....so does peeing on your feet in the shower (battlefield medicine).

 

X2......I used the steroids cream for mine as well....and it did great. Hasn't came back in 2 years.....and I wear leather work boots everyday...even in summer...and my feet sweat like hell.

 

Yellow toenails or fingernails? Rub Vicks into the nail and cuticle morning and evening. Worked for me, takes about a month to kill the fungus or whatever it is.

I see ultraviolet wands in catalogs that are supposed to kill germs, not too expensive. Wave it over your feet and in the boots to kill the little buggers.

Looks like I need to pay a visit to the doctor. I wonder if I can call them and request a steroid cream prescrip? This isn't anything serious... no yellowing of toenails or anything. Just started cracking the skin open at one spot. When that happens, I know its not gonna be easy to get rid of or I have to be more active with my foot maintenance.

Any thoughts on getting it out of your shoes?
I think I saw a link somewhere about putting your shoes in the freezer. Hell, that's easy enough to try it.

Made an appointment for tomorrow.... I hate being on factory work and shift rotations. I never get to see the same doctors. The good ones are never available and the one I have tomorrow...doesn't impress me.
But whatever.....better than not going at all I guess.

I also wear steel toe boots for 12 hours a day in a hot shop, I lotion my feet every day and don't really have problems, as in "I" i mean the wife.

Weekends i only wear sandles to give my feet a break.

 

I wish I could go bare footed more often. I always wear socks cuz my feet are always COLD!!! And if I go too long (being cold), they almost cramp up.
Guess I should mention that to the doctor also eh?

I have similar issues with my feet, been battling the damn stuff since I was a kid. I am very interested in the outcome. Please keep us posted.

 

i have the same issues on the sides of my feet with my combat boots. When I find it I pick the area clean of the bad skin and spray the Tinactin on there. Burns like hell but after a few days of doing this is went away. probably not the best way to do it but it worked!

 

Lose the cotton socks. You need a sock to wick the moisture away from your foot. The warmth and moisture contribute to the growth of foot fungus. You will continue to fight a losing battle as long as you wear cotton socks.

 

x2. i switched to a wool sock. I also wear biking socks that breathe really well

 

If you buy the medicine make sure you use it for the recommended time. If it says 10 days and the rash goes away before that, keep using it. Lamisil (sp??) makes a good product. Tinactin is also good.

 

Pee on you feet in the shower. I know it is gross. Do it when you first get in then wash them before you get out. Something in the pee kills it. My DR told me about this. You can google it also

 

i was going to say this but didn't know if i was actually right. lol now that i think about it.... i haven't gotten athletes foot in a while now...

pee in a cup then splash it on your foot!

I never wore cotton socks with my boots. I wore Thorlo socks, but they were expensive {and soft and cushy} and never had an issue.
