Do you have any tips for it? I assume I want to air down (20?) and take my mud flaps off, but these are just assumptions lol.

I'd probably be down. I dont want to stay out too late and would probably head back by 3 or so at the latest.

Airing down would be good. It adds comfort and makes tires less susceptible to being punctured. Not really needed traction wise, but I always air down when I can. 20 is good, or even a little lower like 15 or 18. Other than that, just bring some food and water along.

I def appreciate that. FWIW, I planned on doing the easier track due to skill level (and first time "wheeling" this properly) and from what I gather, you've quite a beast of a truck lol.

    Where are you in NOVA?

Part of this is "scouting" for a group of friends that want to camp in that area in a few weeks.

I also need a CB/UHF by Sunday. I noticed @EatSleepTacos 's preferred handheld is conveniently out of stock on Amazon, so that's cool and convenient lol.

I live pretty close to there. I have been through there enough (about 25 times) to tell you its lame and dont waste your time.

If you want to camp, there are numerous camping areas on the way there. The camp grounds are nice

If by "beast" you mean a clapped out long travel second gen with major reliability issues, then yes.

From what I vaguely recall about some discussion a month ago--they need to be reprogrammed? Is that true?

    I'm looking at this:

    https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-BF-F...18CZ80ZX6YT&psc=1&refRID=2E14B3RFH18CZ80ZX6YT

    And probably the programming cable.

You don't need the programming cable unless you plan on using a PC. You can do everything on the handheld.

A programming cable is just to make it easier to create a bunch of custom channels to your liking. That can all be done from they keypad. That said, we don't use any of that. We set up a single channel and that's it, we never change it.

Is there a guide y'all use? I could have sworn some conversation about this a month or so ago, but quarantine has warped my perception of time.

These radios may not be the most legal thing but it's all a weird grey area. If you want to play it safe you can get a midland brand GMRS walkie talkie and then pay the FCC for your GMRS license ($70).

Until the FCC has an armed response team with radio triangulation equipment, I am not going to worry about it.

I unfortunately am in a position where I cannot take many--if any--risks due to my career/professional obligations. Which sucks!
