What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I am by no means an expert on Toyota 4.0L engines,, not even close. Different years and models might have different sensors so you might have to swap sensors and the wiring harness so it'll work with your ECU. Other than that, they all should interchange.

As far as me doing the wrenching, I'd prefer me doing an engine swap over repairing the existing engine, but that's probably just me. Plus with a swap you have a shot at getting a engine with a lot less miles on it.

 

Just installed my automatic Pop & Lock tailgate! Will come in handy once my Retrax cover comes in.

 

Just wrapped. I wanted to get a real one but the only one I was able to find was almost a grand lol saved well over half of that by just wrapping.

From what I understand all 1GR-FE VVT-i (variable valve timing) are the same in all 04-15 Tacoma's as well as the 02-09 4runners. The 09 and newer 4runners and some tundras have a 1GR-FE but its got a different Dual VVT-i that will differ from the earlier 1GR's.

At that price you could find a cheap donor motor, strip it to be put in your truck then just pay a mechanic to remove the old, swap remaining parts over (exhaust, intake, harness) and drop it in for about the same price maybe just a bit more depending on the price of the used engine.

I blew a few pistons in a previous vehicle and went the engine swap route, outside of general tools and a roof over my head all I needed was an engine hoist and 2 floor dollies. Granted that was an cobalt ss that sat a few inches off the ground. Swapping an engine is just time consuming and less "mechanically inclined" like tearing an engine apart. However after living in an apartment and having to maintain that same vehicle in the parking lot I completely understand not wanting to attempt this on your own without a garage.

 

What bushings did you use in the LCAs?

 

How much did everything run you? lockers in both or just the rear? did they send you them prebuilt and you are sending them back your cores?

I would def. be looking around for a replacement engine.

 

255/85r16 (33s) but I have full armor and other crap.

 

ECGS prebuilt, lockers in both, cost will be ~$4900 once I send my cores back and get that money refunded.

 

Or figure out how to swap a new 4runner engine in. More power than ours. But stupid electric throttle body

 

Yikes! Is that CAD though? I want to regear for my 33s just to get my stock tire feel back but its not cheap

 

How waterproof are the Vaults? How is driving through rain? I've been eyeing them for their bigger volume, but they are labeled as "water resistant". I was hoping to put camp bedding up top, but don't want pillows and blankets

 

Haha, nope usd. The Harrop lockers added $2600 to the bill.

 

Doing the scuba mod this weekend. Can anyone tell if you I need to use white Teflon tape on the nipple going into the pumpkin? Or any tape?

 

yesh......that stings.....but at least you know it was put together by professionals that know what they are doing and all you had to do was put them in.....how hard was it to hook up the wiring for the e-lockers? I have heard good things about the arb air lockers but I wanted to go with something that didn't require a air compressor.

Yes, I used grey plasti-dip. I liked the look of the black lower section guys do with white trucks and wanted some contrast with mine and came out a lot better than I was expecting.
