Anyone that has a shell run into the bed losing problem on the 2nd gen Tacomas ? There is a thread on T W about the beds bolts coming lose from putting wight like a shell or a rack and wearing out the bed mounts ware it meets the frame. Just trying to figure out if putting a shell / canopy on my truck will give me this issue.

You can check the bolts/clamps to make sure they are tighten periodically. If you go extreme rock trails, your topper/shell can shift and they could loose, before you go on the road after off roading, you can check the bolts/clamps.

Sorry I may have miss wrote my post. I was referring to the truck bed bolt. Thanks for replying!

Like I said check the bolts periodically. Bolts in bed, bolts and clamps on rails for topper.. something like that. If they become loose, tight them.

I have topper and racks, I check them everyday to make sure they are good. They haven't gotten loosen up yet.

Sounds good. I will definitely do that as part of my routine maintenance.

Congrats! When it rains, check for the leaks coming through.. Open the topper door and check for the leaks in the front corners.

If that happens, ask the dealer to seal them. They probably already know by now and have it fixed. Lot of people with topper that leaks and got it sealed up.

Cool. Thanks man. When you say front corners, are you referring to the corners by the tailgate?

No, by the window. Tailgate is back corners. Window up front is front corners.

Anyone else having trouble with Leer?

I ordered my 100XR 6.5 weeks ago. Dealer said it would arrive in 4-5 weeks. So yesterday they called me by accident thinking I was a different customer letting me know the roof tracks that were supposed to be on his shell came in. He then explained that once mine comes in he anticipates the roof tracks I ordered would not be installed either and that they were having issues with Leer (told me he could give me my money back for the tracks or install them later).
I then asked what the status of my order was since it should’ve been delivered by now and he said he wasn’t sure and that when he looked it up it hadn’t shipped and he wasn’t sure if it had even been built yet. I asked if he could call Leer and he said no they only respond to email...
So, is this dealer bad at ordering shells or is Leer not at the top of their game?

According to my local dealer, the Leer factory was temporarily shut down during the height of covid. Could not get any parts ordered. They might still be recovering from that delay.

That’s what I kind of figured. I don’t mind the delay given the circumstances, just would’ve been nice if the dealer had been more knowledgeable of the situation

My shell was affected by this as well. I ordered it March 1st and it finally arrived in mid June. Leer, Century and Snugtop are now the same company after an investment group purchased them all. They have three manufacturing facilities in the USA, one in CA, one in the Midwest and the other in the East. When Covid hit they had to move my order to the Midwest plant as CA was the first state to shut down in March.

Be nice. Don't forget most businesses got shut down due COVID 19. I am sure they are behind and trying to catch up the orders.
