This is one of my biggest fears of having a well. Ours here is really deep but California is always in a drought so :notsure:

The new house is over 400ft deep but it supposedly pumps at like 80ft so who knows why it was drilled so deep.

I'm not a plumber and I thought our pump went out when the water quit a few years ago. Went to Lowe's because it was convenient and getting late. Dropped it in the 200' well (checked the tag on the casing this morning, it's 200' instead of 178' like I thought) and that didn't fix our water so I pulled the pump back out and found a broken wire going to the pump about half way down from rubbing the side of the casing. Fixed that and dropped it back down and still wouldn't work. Turns out when that wire shorted in the well it burnt the wire feeding it under ground. Replaced that wire and it fixed our water problem. Luckily I kept the pump I pulled out to begin with

My wife and I were talking about old times the other day and I said remember when you used to page me? (we dated for a couple years then took a 12 year break before getting back together for the 3rd time and getting married) Anybody remember a pager before cell phones? This was like 1998 when I had one.

All you folks with deep wells...
    I have the opposite problem.

    Story time.

The little old lady next door has a spring under her basement.
The basement is ground level on the downhill side.
She has to run a sump pump constantly, piped out to the storm drain that runs beside the street.
One time in Winter it died and pretty soon there was a sheet of ice way down the street.

I also have a spring on the bank next to her property.
In wet Winters it weeps and I sometimes get a sheet of ice in the driveway.

One Summer during a thunderstorm, a giant red oak at the top of the bank came down with an almighty crash.
It was like a bomb went off.
    Missed the carport.
I figure the spring had something to do with it, being directly beneath the oak tree.
Anyway, that really opened it up for a while. And decreased my neighbor's flow.
I thought I'd have to have to get a trench dug and lay drainage tile. $$$

Which would have been kinda cool, actually...to have my own spring for drinking water.
But it went back to the way it was before by next Winter.
I'm fairly sure I could open it up pretty easily with a bit of digging.

BTW, that red oak that came down?
I put my Alaskan sawmill attachment on my chainsaw and made planks.
Seasoned them, planed them, and they're now the wainscot in the MB.
That ended up being a lot more work than I bargained for.

My parents get their water from a spring, always have. Dad had a neighbor build a cinder block wall around it in the late 1980's and put a roof over it with an overflow pipe. It gives off 11gpm out of the pipe and he figures they have a 750 gallon reservoir in the block walls.
