Tranny squeal

Fairly new to Tacomas. 2010 SR5, V6, 4x4 with a 6-speed manual.

Just recently, when sitting with the truck running, I’m hearing a faint rotational squeal. If I just very lightly touch the clutch pedal, it stops. Not even hard enough to disengage the clutch. Very light pressure. Pull my foot away and it starts again. It’s not loud at all.

Any ideas what that might be?

Almost certainly your throw-out bearing. Not sure about 2nd gen Tacomas, but I know with older Chevs (S-10/S-15) it was a sure sign that you were on a count-down to a gernading bearing. I'm sure others can chime in with more experience on whether this is something you need to worry about or not.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Have a shop do it or DIY? Tough stuff on a Tacoma?

 

It's a PIA driveway job on a 4x4 unless you have a lift of some sort (or tall jackstands) and a transmission jack, but it's definitely do-able. You'll probably save yourself about a grand, but it will likely take a full weekend unless you have some experience.

 

Might be the TOB chirp that all M/T owners deal with including myself. Have heard of a few temporary fixes but nothing set in stone. Was considering replacing the TOB for a clutchmaster TOB paired with a exedy clutch when mine is due for a change. Many have had better luck with the Clutchmaster TOB & have heard some folks on here go with the URD TOB but have had the "chirp" come back 10-20k miles later.

 

Tranny squeal? Maybe his panties are too tight?
