I keep seeing autoblogs on various websites about how dealers are desperate to unload gladiators, that they are starting to discount, etc etc.

I did a quick inventory search, and there was exactly one model nearby that meets my wants (6MT with tow package). Its at some dealership way out in the boonies, one of those places thats inexplicably next to an interstate truck stop and nothing else.

They want 59k for it. Even at a high volume dealer I probably can't negotiate a sticker like that down to a price that's reasonable. Think I'll just check back at the end of summer, see how desperate they are then.

The high volume dealers between D.C. and the PA/MD border have them deeply discounted right now. $5-$10k off, even on Rubicon trim. Not sure what trade values look like, but you know Tacomas always trade well.

I've decided a higher truck payment isn't what I need right now, but I'll still allow them to turn my head when I see one.

59k:eek:... at that price point I rather get a Raptor instead. Is kind of embarrassing if someone asked you how much you paid for your Gladiator and the answer is over 60k, I can just imagine the look in their face like “congrats, you got yourself a Jeep..

As mentioned I'm seeing big discounts on these right now, so I'm sure if one went in and sat down with them, that number would go way down.

But even if it didn't, why would you care what people thought about what you paid on a vehicle? If someone paid 60k for a Gladiator I am sure they could care less that someone thinks they paid too much. Doubt the 5-10k more or less makes much difference to someone with that kind of disposable income.

mosty because I don’t want to pay the high price the used FJs demand and I like the option of a removable top. I’ll still keep the Tacoma until it rusts away. I’m also excited about the MT with the crawl/low gear as I use my 4lo now when 2lo would work.

Well I think the problem is that just because you spent $60000 on a gladiator doesn't mean you have $60000 dollars of disposable income. And why would you want to give the dealer a dollar more than you have to? My pops always told me as a kid that the easiest money I'll ever make is the money I don't spend.

We all see vehicles daily that people pay way more for what they need. I have co workers who do this often.

Ya know these people. Drive a lifted 3500 diesel and don't tow anything.

I agree with it being over priced. But I think alot of vehicles are over priced personally. Just like homes.

Seems crazy that of all things, the engine is the part causing the problem. This engine is in 90% of CDJRF models, isn't it?? What's the new technology in the Gladiator that's causing the problem?

My boss purchased a brand spanking new Gladiator Rubicon about 3 weeks. He had a ~4” lift and 37’s on it within a week. His all-in total thus far is $60+ Grand. It’ll never see anything worse than a county road. Sorry, but looking cool isn’t worth THAT much to me.

Absolutely right. I would never spend that much on a truck!

I might be a hypocrite, though — if Toyota did a redesign on, say, the FJ Cruiser, and it came with front and rear lockers and a solid front axle I’m pretty sure they’d have the final say on where my spare money from my paychecks went for the next 36-60 months. Haha.

After seeing the pics and specs of the new Bronco, I predict the days of Jeeps killer resale value will be ending soon. Glad I dumped both of mine within a year. They did run perfectly I must admit.

Trades were outstanding in February around here. Only lost $2k on my Taco after nearly 2 years.

You could not pay me to drive an MT JL/JT... the damn things were recalled for lighting themselves on fire and a truck that can't tow more than a 4Runner doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

But that's also why they're hard to find... recall meant a stop-sale on all of them including new orders so there was a manufacturing backlog. Any dealer that has one available has likely had it a while and has done the recall fix.

I chose a Tacoma over a Gladiator. We have an 18 JKU that we roll doorless and topless.with. No issues with our Jeep's reliability. Not a fan of the Gladiator's looks compared to an Unlimited in general. Some do look nice when done right.
