Update: Just spoke with the other party's insurer and they are accepting full responsibility.

They have been a real pleasure to work with so far. In New Jersey, they are giving me a rental vehicle for the meantime, then the options are:

    1) go to their preferred shop and they cover the bill

    2) they send a representative to assess the damage and then you go to a preferred shop and then they cover the bill

I'm leaning #2 because it's a bit closer to home and I think they'll do a better job than #1 which is a Chevrolet dealer. Which option would you guys pick?

How much does an exorcism cost? Idk if insurance covers that.

Pick the body shop you want is what I would do. But keep in mind that most body techs know all make and models. A fender is a fender, there is nothing special about how they connect to a car.

Find the company that uses the best paint or the closest match paint to what the factory is using. They probably wont be doing much body filler here since all the damaged panels are not repairable, so just make sure they have a good painter (Body techs and painters are 2 different jobs at all the body shops I have worked at)
Also the prep work they do will determine how good the job comes out.

Hey thanks, I needed to hear this.

Just called the preferred shop and the representative was super knowledgeable. He said they work on all sorts of makes and have the capability to do all sorts of frame repairs and paint matching. Nothing bad to say about the competing shop either so I think I'll be happy either way.

I would pick number two for sure. Not sure where you are in Jersey but I would pick the best auto body shop that you know of ... maybe even ask the Toyota dealer who they prefer to work with. I think you are also legally entitled to have only OEM parts, etc. A good shop will know all of that. And if there is a good aftermarket shop in your area might want to touch base with them. Have the adjuster give you the full on price to get the truck returned to 100% new and then work with the shop to see if the can make some upgrades for you.

Best of luck ... the other bummer is you take the hit on the Car Fax now, too, I suppose.

Agree 100%. I am trying to move further North. Adirondacks are incredible. But there are also some really beautiful places in NJ, too. But the drivers. OMG. :)
