Power ECT

I could not find anything about my question with the search... I was wondering is it better for your truck/MPG to drive with it on all the time? Also will it harm anything over time?

Really? my bad i cant find it in the search...

 

My ultraguage shows there isn't that much difference in mpg. And it shifts easier up and over hills and overpasses. I don't use it though. If it helped then it would be one of those obvious things that we all learned about when we first got our trucks. Just keep it off and enjoy your slow truck Bryce

Ive found that ECT on or off makes no difference when you drive with a regular/light foot. ECT Power on just lets the trany stay in a lower gear more easier. With power off, even when you get heavy on the gas, the trany tends to upshift too soon and is sluggish to down shift. Therefore, ive found it much easier to drive with Power on.

As far as gas mileage, With Power off, I tend to get lower gas mileage when Im trying to drive hard and the same gas mileage when I drive easy. Again, this is why I keep Power on.

it will change the shift points of the transmision and make it hold gears for a longer time. It also prevents the torque converter from unlocking so soon. It will drop your mileage a little. if you are towing or driving in the mountains though you will have lower tranny temps with it on and more power. It wont hurt anything to run it all the time but there really is no need.

 

As already mentioned it extends the shift points on your automatic transmission giving you that little extra power/response.

The Tacoma Manual says to keep it off for optomize fuel efficiency.

I find it most useful in offroad and rush-to-work situations, otherwise i leave it off.

 

I leave mine on all the time and get better mileage with it on. Give it a try, it won't hurt anything.
