This is what mine looks like. I eventually am going to make a smaller snorkel head but for off the shelf this is really all I could find.

As much as I hate the look of snorkels this actually doesn’t look half bad. Especially if you did some sort of custom and slightly smaller head for it

I think it’s more of the non giant tube running up the a-pillar that I like. Saving the idea for later as I have been messing with my intake setup and still slightly concerned about heat and water ingestion

I already have cut fenders so I know why you mean about everything being exposed which also lets in a lot more road noise too. I think I am going to take some serious time to fit and body work the fenders and bedsides and I want to extend the inner lip of the front fenders maybe an inch so that I have a surface to tie a DIY wheel well liner into with some nice button head stainless hardware

Put your front diff back in and you’ll be fine lol. But yeah you should be alright. Just don’t stop in any bad spots. I usually cruise around the dunes in 2wd locked

Thanks. I agree, especially on third gens, snorkels look kind of dumb. Mine was super easy. It’s just a snorkel head, two silicone couplers, and a straight piece of tube.

Once summer is over I’m going to try something else because I don’t really like the look of that snorkel head. Probably some sort of scoop instead.

I almost picked up one of those hummer snorkel heads but they were either too expensive or too big. I can’t remember.

my experience with Pismo dunes and 2wd is exactly what @snowsk8air2 said. Pick the tops of dunes to stop at, or at least a larger flat area.
I run 10psi rear and 12psi front, and haven’t had any issue with breaking the bead.

Be wary of unexpected holes and other drop offs though ! I learned the hard way haha

Truly dunes are a blast, the most fun I’ve had in my truck. But definitely gotta respect how they are formed and change all the time.

& yes, had a local Fab shop replace the core support and inner fenders.

Similar to @Sterling_vH111 we had a bead blow at the bottom of a bowl (instead of smashing the front) - ratchet strap around the tire and a compressor got it re-inflated and a snatch strap got him out.

Yeah @jeff b since you are 2wd make sure you aren’t alone and someone has recovery gear. Even if you’re both 2wd. Soft spots and ever changing conditions can put the most prepared rig in a tough situation

I've never had a tire come off the bead in dune, desert, or crawling

Think he wasn't too aired down. Hit the bottom of that bowl. Pictures flatten it out.

I kind of had a basic idea of where it was going to sit. Essentially trim, check, trim, check, and so on haha. Very time consuming.
