does anyone know an aftermarket producer of window bars or cages for Tacomas? My truck was broken into last night (ironically in Tacoma) and a few items stolen. I'd like to prevent this going forward.

Nothing was visible, anything in there was covered by a blanket, and the items stolen were completely random and mostly work related. Probably crackheads looking for easy items to flip.

How did they get in the truck? Big dog, alarm system, lockbox?

Unfortunately I find myself in bad areas for work fairly often, though I live outside them.

I never leave anything sitting in the interior. The rear windows are dark enough, but just light enough that anyone looking into my truck can see there's nothing sitting in there. That's also the reason I've kept the original radio. Just nothing "worth stealing" in view.

Buy a beater for commuting, don't lock it or leave anything in it. Or, keep it well insured and just live with it. In some places, today, you can't even get a cop to respond to a break-in.

They didnt respond. They get too many of these calls, and say they dont even send police anymore. They just give you an efile form for the insurance. Really inspires confidence.

I’d recommend getting TF out of that state (I’m assuming Tacoma, WA). Lots of nut jobs run things up there which doesn’t instill much confidence in protecting personal property

Yeah, its a good thing that I take the more valuable stuff with me, and Washington at least still has defense of property laws along with being a constitutional open carry state. The problem is when you cant be around to protect your own property, the state could care less. Took an L on this one, since my insurance wont cover the full value taken.

You’re probably looking for something like this

Most security bars like this are more commercial orientated, you probably will have to go the custom route

Fortunately I'm not usually in areas like this, but can get called over to them on short notice. This place is a joke though. Police dont respond to most reports of crime because they're so overwhelmed, rampant drug use, homelessness everywhere... I think your chances of being a victim of violent or property crime here is something like 1/10. Considering I've only been here for 5 days and this happened, I believe it.

If you have stuff inside and you're trying to hide it with towels, blankets, clothes etc they're going to break in to see what you hid underneath. It implies you have stuff under it to steal.

If you change your glass to laminated glass they'll go through the door lock or the rear slider. Same if you add some sort of bars to the window. Tacoma locks and rear sliding windows are extremely easy to get past.

The more difficult you make it for the thief the more you're going to piss them off and the more damage they'll do.

It really doesn't matter what you do, you can't prevent a break in. (Here comes more useless "move" comments.)

I'm thinking with the bars, I could double down on the security system and get one that sets off an alarm on my phone when it trips. Gives me time to get outside and deal with it before they would do any damage that insurance wouldnt cover.
