Just leave it unlocked and empty with a note that says "Nothing left to steal, you got it all last time"

If only. :D Though I'd prefer just having contact plates under the door handles to shock the hell out of someone if they pulled on it while the alarm was activated.

    A man can dream.

My last car was a wrangler with a soft top. So to not have them slashed, I just left it unlocked all the time. Yeah my stuff would get looked through at the college parking lot but at least no damage was done. I had a cheap backpack with some boxers, socks and jumper cables that got stolen. I didn’t even notice when it got stolen. One day I just looked in the back seat and it was gone. Anyway. Now for the taco I keep a toolbox for my tools and that’s lockable. The truck is unlocked most of the time.

Maybe it was fallout behavior from those uprooted CHOP assholes in Seattle.

Just moving away isn’t the right answer. 20 years in the military has had me living all over the place the past 20 years. My car was broken into 3 times in North Carolina even though it was a shit box with nothing in it. My neighbor in NC had his truck broken into in his driveway and they stole a pistol. My truck was broken into twice in California, and had my car stolen there as well. I got it back minus the radio and all the goodwill donations I had in the trunk but hadn’t dropped off yet. All we can do is make sure it’s locked, valuables are not left in it, and have it insured. IMO window cages just say there’s something in here worth taking.

Sorry you had to deal with this.

    Fayettenam, huh?
Yeah, I talked to toyota today and apparently theres a window breakage sensor I might be able to get installed. That and a cellphone alert for the alarm might be enough for now before I take any more drastic steps for modifications.

Lots of meaningless opinions here....unless you are willing to deal with the consequences of what you refer to as "drastic steps", just learn to live with it. So, you get a cell phone alert, then what? Confrontation, lethal force? There is just more downside to any intervention other than calling the cops that won't come.
Yeah, it sucks, but that's what we have come to live with in many metropolitan areas.

I did insurance replacement work for over 20 years. 95% of car vandals/thieves are not professional thieves.

I now have 3 "friends" that are retired professional car thieves/vandals. If you were to approach those idiots when they were doing their "job" you had better be armed. Each has put many people in intensive care and 1 of them permanently paralyzed his victim with a red brick to the head.

Washington still has defense of property laws. Yes, I would confront, and warn them off while calling the police. If they persisted with property damage and theft, or escalated things physically towards me, then I would respond with appropriate force. Legal, and carry insurance covers me from there

Yeah, right, uh huh......The courts are full of citizens that exercised their right to defend their property (all 50 states have these laws on the books), then spend years in court....defending their right. Ask the folks who owned businesses in downtown Seattle how those laws worked for them. IF, your defense of your property should result in any harm or injury to the bad guy, you will likely find yourself a defendant in a lawsuit brought by that party. There is no upside to your "drastic steps" option. The "rule of law" no longer favors the law abiding citizen.

Another sobering reminder of the consequences of exercising your defense of property rights.

"Authorities in St. Louis executed a search warrant Friday evening at the home of Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the couple who made headlines last month when they took up arms to defend their home from protesters."

Cameras, glass, alarms? I don't know the answer the problem it won't stop them from trying. They don't know they cant break your windows it a brick but they may cause a lot of damage. An audible alarm may chase them away and alert you.

I can't believe your alarm didn't go off! I had one on my old car that if you kicked the tire or opened the door without disarming it it would go off.
