Anyone who has bought the Taco Garage grill with OEM garnish that comes with it, I have a couple of questions.

1. Does this grill and garnish combo truly eliminate "clean sensor" problems?
2. Does the OEM garnish option come pre-attatched?
3. Does anyone have experience with installing this grill-garnish combo after getting the recall done?

@FreshMexicanTaco might be able to answer some of these?

Sample of one, 2019 done 10 months ago or so. Partially qualified to answer

1) I had it error exactly twice due only to a HUGE snow load. It's still irritating but a tiny deal, stop turn truck off, knock snow off, restart and go, error cleared
2) I took the actual OEM sensor off, installed it in place behind/on the supplied garnish. So easy a caveman can do it. I fully intended on throwing the shitty chicken wire grill away, the clips were fighting with me, I just purposely broke them and that speeded up the only slow part of installation.
3) I am not nor do I have any intention of doing the recall as I installed some dense rubber mat behind the sensor to simulate the recall fix only better, and again my sensor has zero true problems.

 

This is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks so much! Snow isn't a concern of mine, I have a feeling the OEM installation would have an issue in heavy snow, hence the verbage "clean sensor." Just to be super clear, you bought the OEM garnish and the grill both from @FreshMexicanTaco? I currently have a pro grill from Toyota Pro Shop and it has had all kinds of TSS issues, regardless of how many washers I put behind the top screw lmao. I have one of @FreshMexicanTaco 's grill on order right now, so I'm hopeful but with the OEM garnish it was spendy so if it doesn't work I'm gonna be irritated. Still want to increase sample size if possible, anyone else have experiences to share?

Yes all from FMT, garnish installed as I recall.....I remember thinking that part was not a huge deal.

I bought my grill last week from @ToyotaProShop with what I thought was an OEM garnish (but I guess it’s not). I installed it on Monday, and I have experienced no issues so far. It looks great, and it was super easy to install. The only issue I had was that the clips holding the garnish don’t fit well in the grill. I’m praying it doesn’t pop out. Also, I had zero idea how to install the circle metal clips over the studs on the garnish to keep it attached.

 

Really? Maybe I just got unlucky then. Had my @ToyotaProShop one installed for about a week and I have had a TSS issue every day. I tried to install the circle locking nut things but I couldn't get them on all the way so I gave up. Will post an update once I get the Taco Garage one from @FreshMexicanTaco in the mail.

 

I’ve been waiting for the Taco Garage to restock their garnish because my garnish from Toyota Proshop had sensor errors everyday. Even after cleaning it, it would fail 30 mins later.

I still see Taco Garage sold out, did I miss the restock??

 

I bought the OEM one from them. I'm just trying to get this fixed

 

Also, I emailed them and theyre sending me another garnish to try. No clue if it's different or not.

 

I used a socket to push the locking nut on tightly.

 

I bought a TRD Pro Grill w/ Garnish from Truck Accessories Guy and installed with some minor corrections. I have the dreaded "off" light for the front collission TSS. It looks like my options are:
1. Pay $400 to get the OEM garnish (won't do this on principle alone)
2. Put a washer or two under the top screw of the TSS sensor, so it tilts up a bit. How can this even work if the issue is the plastic material itself (as in No. 1)?
3. Disconnect battery.
4. Pay the stealership $$$ to recalibrate sensor.

Any other solutions? Was debating sanding down the back of my garnish to thin the material, in case the thickness of the plastic is the problem.

 

I also went with the aftermarket option and my error went away within 7-10 days. If the error says something like "clean sensor", that would be normal.

 

Hopefully this helps someone that's looking to go the OEM approach.

I have a '20 OR with Advanced tech (i.e. a front camera).

I ordered a PT228-35200-AA from Sparks toyota (this is the grille with the front camera mould). I used a VIN from a random 2017-2018 TRD pro around my area to get it.

If you wanted to go the full OEM approach then you can order the TRD pro front camera/ECU, but that's too much $ for me to get a grille.

Anyways, the front camera mount on the OR won't fit on the pro grille so you can either cut it, or get a 3D printed mount from either Thingiverse or @Grant83.

The installation itself is pretty easy, remove some screws and unclip the OG grille and do a sensor/camera transplant to the new grille. The only thing I came across was the wire harness wasn't exactly long enough to reach the new positions of the camera and sensor so I had to stretch and change the ziptie locations a bit. I'll probably get the TRD pro version of it eventually.

I haven't seen any TSS errors so far and I haven't noticed too much of a difference with the 360 camera.

If you're going to get Raptor lights, it may not fit the OEM grille. I ordered a set of 4 ambers from running4tacos and they didn't fit. I ended up using my multi-tool to shave the sides until they all fit.

Overall it was an easy process, but just requires some research beforehand. Let me know if any of you guys have questions about it.

 

Just added 3 SS washers (1/32" each) under the top screw. Will report findings after a longer drive - usually my light comes on after driving a while.

By the way, TSS/PCS saved my a$$ once in my previous vehicle (Rav4). I was on the highway and the car in front of me braked suddenly. I didn't realize it until PCS started beeping and then I slammed on the brakes. It was close - real close. The system works and I'd like it remain working on the Taco. I don't use lane assist or cruise control, but the front collision detection is an asset.

 

I have made a Mark II of the camera mount bracket for the Pro Grill. The overall design has some added strength and is now manufactured from ABS plastic with has good thermal resistance for hotter environments.

So far, the washer solution seems to work (fingers crossed). 3 washers @1/32" each under the top screw. Loosen and re-tighten side bolts per the new angle.

 

I installed the Pro Grill and aftermarket garnish from Truckaccessoriesguy.com and got the TSS sensor error. I added 4 washers to the top bolt of the TSS sensor and haven't had any further issues for 2 months and 2,000 miles.
