    If you can turn it over by hand then for some reason you are getting low torque out of the starter. Being that it quit while running, I'd check for a partially damaged fuse or wire between the battery and the starter.

    This has happened to me occasionally since I was a kid. It is horrible. I have found that it mostly happens when I'm sleeping with my head elevated too much and my chin is on my chest. I "wake up" or become slightly conscious because I can't breathe but I can't move to be able to breathe. It is pure panic until finally my body wakes up and moves.

    Once I go to sleep I'm out. But I've got a weird sleep pattern, fall asleep about 730 wake up 900 fall back asleep 3-4 wake up at 7.
