Anyone in north Arizona? Was given a Yeasu 2800m. It’s old and not sure if it works. Would like to test it. Then I can figure out if it’s worth mounting in my truck or go a different route. Plus get to actually learning then take the test whe I can.

I can test that. But beyond powering up. I’d like some knowledgeable to functional test it. Tx/rx etc.

I have a lead on a used Kenwood D710a. It has had a GPS module installed. The guy is asking $350. I feel like $300 is more in line since it has been used quite a bit for the last 3+ years.

Any thoughts? Things to look for? I am going to see if he will FaceTime or Skype with me to show me that it works.

Just out of curiosity; I am reading up on how APRS packets are transmitted, when you guys are way off grid are you using WIDE1-1, WIDE2-2 or still using the WIDE2-1? It seems like the desert SW benefits from using WIDE2-2. Also, one fundamental question; if there is another APRS user monitoring 44.39 and they are in range of a IGate but you are not, does your message go from your TX to the other users to the IGate? You following me?? I guess what I am asking is if your radio retransmits other units packets to help reach an IGate.

    Thanks y'all!

Considering ditching my cb and going gmrs. I don’t mind paying the 70 for the license and I like that all of us can use it. Especially when we are out and my kids want to go hiking I just toss them a ht and can communicate for a fair distance. We went out this weekend and the cb chatter was just awful. Even if we’re already communicating some jack wagon kept coming in wanting to talk about bs that none of us gave two craps about.
