Just saying, but I get my best MPGs on the tune with the big TQ bump.

I'm making my popcorn and eating it too.

Torque multiplication in low range, soo, that's why it seems "torquey". I just read some of the stuff in the ov tune threads, wow, what a bunch of work and hastle, didn't expect it to be so owner involved....

"Oh my sweet summer child" has got to be the most insulting comment I've ever read here! It's right up there with "oh, bless your heart"

Alright so what combination of modes do I use for my truck not to sit in 3-4K rpms at 80mph getting 10mpg. :turtleride:

Based on your setup... Tundra mode?

Honestly, aftermarket stuff takes a huge toll on the limited efficiency the Tacoma comes with. It just doesn't have the torque profile to hold speed without rpms. I'm stock + OVTune, a Gobi roof rack (not the most efficient) and 225lbs of sliders. I routinely commute at 75-80 mph and probably sit in the 2000-2500 rpm range, bumping to 3000 perhaps occasionally with overpasses and passing. I average about 18.0 - 18.5 mpg in that situation.

Well yes of course its gonna feel really "torquey" in 4LO. I was replying to the "no low end torque offroad" comment. 4Lo Is your best friend offroad with MT. AT you got the torque converter, so it doesnt matter.

I do actually find the truck to have plenty of torque. Normal driving i dont ever have to go over 3k rpm, even on some hills. I use 6th all the time, even if going 40 mph. Second gear is usable in parking lots and low speed driving. No issues at all.

Never understood the no low end torque complaint in the 3rd gen MT taco. Very easy to spin the tires in first in dry pavement.

Sweet summer child? Wtf, Far from it.

I do use my truck for work, thats why i got 2WD low mod. I was referring to the "lack of low end torque off road" comment.

I've had mine since October, and I hated the transmission/engine combo before, and now 33" tires has made it worse. I wen to the store today, and it involves turning left onto a 4 lane highway and driving in the median for a little bit until you can merge with traffic. As usual, I give it more gas, still not going anywhere, more gas, more gas, and finally when I'm at about 7/8ths throttle, the engine wakes up because the transmission has FINALLY FUCKING DECIDED to downshift like 6 gears to get the truck moving. It's ridiculous. The thing LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOVVEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS being at 1200 rpm at all times, no matter what unless you are FLOORING it. ECT mode helps a very tiny bit, but it's still beyond stupid.

So hell yea I will be getting gears. Just need to schedule it with a local shop.

And I may be a little sensitive to it because my other car is a ZL1, but still, I know I'm not the only one who complains about this.

Haha man I wasn’t trying to be mean. I just mean you are only thinking about your needs and not everyone else. I’m glad your Tacoma is perfect for you. For me, I work civil construction and I take my truck wherever i need to go. Regardless of roads or obstacles. FOR ME, the Tacoma isn’t really performing as I need because it doesn’t have enough low end torque. Again I’m glad it works out for you. Maybe I should have gotten a F250 or ram 2500 like the rest of the guys I work with. But I like the taco for being small and nimble.

So next time I need to go out and buy a truck for myself, I should consider your needs?

    Too funny...

Did I upset you? I’m not saying the Tacoma is a bad choice. In my case it just has its shortcomings that can be quickly fixed by modifying. For my needs, it isn’t heavy duty enough, but if it works for others that’s great!! I really like I’m the taco for what it does.

Not upset, I thought the comment about “only thinking about your needs and not everyone else” was very funny.

    Wasn’t I clear?

Why the fk would i think about your needs? Im so confused here o_O Man, the shit i read on this forum sonetimes...

I knew exactly what i was buying and it works perfectly for me after a couple of minor mods.

If you want heavy duty performance, you clealry bought the wrong truck. Now, you go online, and leave douche comments. Right on man.

There are quite a bit of folks like you actually on here. Bought a tacoma, but expect it to be something else.
