Automatic overhaul kit?

Does anybody know where or if I could get a complete tranny overhaul set for our auto transmissions? I’d like to rebuild a junk one in my spare time. Complete meaning everything. I figured Id ask here before I ask a transmission shop. Thanks

 

Plenty of transmissions pop up in the marketplace to find one.

After that, craigslist as there are a ton of vehicles being parted out.

After that, pick and pull, wrecker yards, etc.

Transmission shop would be the last place I go.

 

He's looking for the kit to rebuild one, methinks.

I dunno where else besides Toyota you could get a kit like that @Rachelsdaddy

Toyotas are famously incredibly expensive to rebuild, also they are hard to find and source.

I would suggest if you want to learn auto's to start with a 4L60E from a chevy truck. There's WAAAAAAAAAY more of them out there, and its the golden guide for transmissions, way more resources and parst for them.

The Toyota 4 speed on the 1st gens rarely fail. So I would have no fear of needing a rebuilt soon.

I’ve heard nothing but good things from them, I was about to spend 3k to have them rebuild mine but ended up wanting to go manual instead but I wouldn’t hesitate to use them based on what I’ve heard.
Decent price for heavy duty parts, he uses bigger clutch packs in the rebuild kit they sell. Also does modded valve bodies and shift kits

Also he’s got rebuild videos on YouTube, not an in-depth tutorial but I’ve watched them all and you can get a decent idea of how an auto works and gets put together, with some good tips.

I just rebuilt my A340F for my Prerunner conversion and I got all my parts from Transtar Industries. They make really nice kits with much better parts than most kits. I don’t know where you live but they had a will call location about a hour from me or you can order online. Their website for ordering is Transend.us they have the rebuild kits, bands, torque converters, and some hard parts as well. Hope this helps

 

This is the kit I got from them, had steels, fibers, sealing rings, O rings, plastic washers, pan gasket, check balls, and a few other things. The band does not come with the kit and has to be ordered separate. I think I paid $260 for the main kit and $40 for the band. Not bad when RockAuto wants $242 for their kit. I would much rather use a kit from a company that supplies transmission shops.
