So I’ve put 1,022 miles on my 2020 Tacoma in 6 months. Will my warranty be void if I don’t take it in? Seems dumb to take it in before the 5,000 mile service interval.

I have 7k and have not taken my truck to the dealer....but have taken proper care of the truck myself...

As long as you service your truck properly (following the service manual) performing it yourself or other or dealer, you won’t void your warranty...

Save receipts of service just in case... (I do not do this)

    My 2cents.

First maintance is just a tire rotation. They don't even change the oil on the first maintance anymore.

I would take it in at the 1 year or 5k, what ever is earlier. I believe the manual says oil change every year or 10k

That’s only if you have Toyota care that came “free” with purchase.

I have a 2018 with 3,600 miles. I brought it in every six months for the Toyota Care. Just brought it in for the last visit. It’s had two oil changes and four tire rotations. It was free so I brought it in.

Not doing the Toyota care does not void it or the warranty. 1000 miles in 6 months is almost nothing but no reason to bring it in.

I’m the same way. I just turned 2000 miles on my 2020 and I’ve had it since September. I only drove ~5 miles to the train station before COVID and now I’m 100% WFH. My wife just filled her ‘19 Jeep for the first time since March because we don’t hardly drive anywhere. We may just park her Jeep and put a cover on it and use just my truck. Don’t want to sell because we don’t owe anything in them so it’s not costing us much having them and we have the space.

COVID dude, same here. I've had my 2020 since late Feb, have put a whooping 2500 miles on it, since they moved classes online and clinicals (though we just went back last week).

Sh*t my mom has a 2018 JLU Rubi with 6800 miles on it, lots of people that don't have big commutes and current situation has kept alot of people home.

Damn man this is crazy! I put in like 800 miles a week for work alone. Every month or so when I call in to schedule the maintenance they say “ um this should only be done every 5k miles”. I’m not judging. That’s nice to not have to put the wear and tear on your truck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it. Yeah Covid-19 put a big damper on things. Had a big off road road trip planned and all. Also, I’m fortunate enough to have a take home truck for work. (Not brag’n). Got it to replace my ‘93 Cherokee which isn’t really safe for the kids anymore! (Death wobble)

    thanks again!

For what it’s worth, just brought my 2020 in for the 6 month with 1900 miles on it. Also WFH now due to COVID. It was free so I figured why not.

I can't speak to your warranty, but back when I was doing my first year's mechanics course it was lightly touched on that oil is not just simply oil. Modern oil has detergents and what not that work to keep your engine clean, and these additives have chemical half-lives. Thus the idea of getting your oil changed every 6 months so that your oil is working as intended. It was also mentioned that the first oil change for a motor is important as when the engine was made all the fine clearances are not perfect, resulting in tiny metal shavings floating in your oil. With only 1000miles the amount of shavings and how much damage they will do, your guess is as good as mine.

I've had my 2020 since mid-February. I just did my first oil change (did it myself - no Toyota Care Clowns allowed) with 871 miles.
My excuse/explanation: I'm Retired, and I don't need to drive all that much anymore; but I still enjoy having, and occasionally driving, my nice new Taco. So, for me, the oil change interval will be the specified "... or every 12 months"; and I chose to do it in the summertime each year, while the weather is nice :)

My mileage is divided up among 3 vehicles, so very low mileage per vehicle. I change oil once per year.
