Hood release cable

How much of a pain is it to change the hood cable? It hasn’t broken yet but it is on its way out.

 

Is it not “popping” up the hood? Still able to lift the hood from the front, then release with the lever? Mine started sticking a couple of weeks ago. Felt like the cable was broken. Turns out the release latch/spring was sticking. A little dousing of spray lube got it functional again.

 

Last owner of mine put hood pins on it and I love em. Screw the hood cable and release

 

If your old one is still there, it's easy. Tape the new one to the old one and pull the new one thru the fire wall with the old one. I found it was easier to pull into the cab.

 

It really depends on how you define pain.

To some of us no big deal someone else it turns into a week long project with a visit from the Fire Company

Yes the cable is still there and it still opens the hood. The problem is once I pop the hood the cable sticks in the housing and the latch won’t close and the lever under the dash doesn’t retract. I have to go into the latch and hit the locking lever on the latch to get the cable to release. Yes I know everyone says spray the latch and it will loosen up and work but it doesn’t. I got help one day by someone pulling the lever and popping the latch while I sprayed into the cable housing. It worked fine for 6 months and then crapped out again.

 

Yep, its pretty common for them to do exactly as you are describing. Sound like your cable is fine.
