Surging idle sounds like an air leak to me. Your boots on correctly and tightly? You can use propane or even carb cleaner to check for it, really any flammable gas/aerosol. Spray it around the boots and if the engine surges there’s your leak.

fuel leak where? bowl? drain screw? overflow? Check bowl gasket and that you have the float needle the correct orientation. I put one in backwards accidentally and it caused it to not stop gas from coming into the bowl and over flowed.

Start by trying to nail where it’s leaking, you got this

First impressions while im still on the test ride.. much different riding position, tank is low. Cornering is good. Its a barebones bike. More so than my 48.

    The Icon is $9500
The Icon dark edition is 8900.

this one is a Full Throttle

Well... I think I am putting the 600RR up for sale. Went to a Triumph dealer and am now obsessed with the Scrambler 1200.

You advice is very much appreciated, thanks for that.

I just finished up with the bike, and the news is good overall. While I wasn't able to run it with the rebuilt carbs due to the fuel leak, I was able to remove and replace the original carbs (did it four times today total) and the bike began running like it used to. I assume that when I swapped back to the original carbs, I must have had an air/fuel imbalance which caused it to run so poorly. I did drain them before removing them the first time, so I suppose that was part of it.

Anyway, the end result is that the bike seems to be running like it did before, so I'm really happy that I can continue to ride it while I diagnose the rebuilt carbs and see where I made a mistake. To answer your question, I actually couldn't find the source of the leak. I was watching closely with a flashlight while cranking the starter, but it just seemed to flow out of different areas. The leak is not in a low place, such as the fuel bowl gasket; it seems to be higher up... which worries me. I'm wondering if there is a crack in the housing.

Either way, the good news is that I still have a bike I can ride while I put the other carbs back on the workbench to disassemble and inspect.

    I learned a lot today.

Not bad. Its much like the FZ09. Very upright and wide bars. The yellow one that i test rode, the seat was very forward. And the tank is low. Feels like something is missing right in front.

Im sure the Icon has a flatter seat so I could slide back a little bit. At 5'11" it felt a little small. It still has good pickup.

I think the Harley is quicker, even though its heavier. The Ducati is 400lbs. And if i put an exhaust, that drops. I looked at some of the accessories and they are so much less than Harley! Thats good haha.

I think it would be a fun bike. I just need to decide if its for me. Right now, im leaning 60/40 yes. But also need to pay down my bike some more. And if they dont have one when im ready, ill have to order one. I havent ordered a bike since the FZ09.

I've been eyeballing, researching, watching a bunch of videos for a while. Today was the first time I actually saw one in person and sat on it.

check the float needle seats. Sounds like they are not sealing. You can bench test the floats and the seals before you install next time. Search on ninjette.org for tips. I’m over there as well.

@spencermarkd whats the top speed of a ct90? I finally got to take the Grom out for a little ride yesterday without the kiddo. Speed tables are a blast going full speed over them!
