The sidewalk would need to be 148° for an egg to fry . Just measured the temp of my front patio and driveway , both showing temps of 139°

    I can wait....

wasn't it in death valley a couple years ago that people started cracking eggs on the sidewalk and the rangers had to put up signs asking folks to stop as it was causing a hazard?

I'm seeing T storms building out to the East near the I-40 fwy east of Barstow ca . So cloud cover is not allowing warmer temps . Now yes if you're at Death Valley right now especially Furnace Creek ranch you can easily fry an egg , it's currently 123° right now

    nope. nope. nope.
i would like to visit death valley one day. preferably in the winter. i've always wanted to see the sailing rocks or sliding rocks or whatever they are. and the fighter jets if they happen to be out doing their training runs.

The sliding rocks is in section of Death Valley called the Race track

The fighter jets run thru Rainbow canyon near Father Crowley overlook in the Northern section of Panamint Valley in the Death Valley Nat park . Rainbow Canyon is commonly called Star Wars Canyon/Jedi loop . I go there 1-2 times a year

It always amazes me that fish could survive in those conditions.

122° is not that hot if you're accustomed to it and you stay hydrated and dress accordingly

I've got a Marine Veteran who's actually at Furnace Creek ranch playing a few rounds of golf there this weekend

trying to figure out my camping excursion for next weekend. i go to the same place this time every year. once my allergies start to bother me i seek refuge at higher elevations (+10k) where nature is on a delayed schedule due to the alpine climate.
first time bringing the camper so not sure how its going to go this time. there's multiple routes in. the smoothest is also the longest so pro/con there - great ride but gas consumption might be an issue. the shortest route is also the roughest - i usually air down when I go but that's not an option with the camper, gotta maintain 75psi. there's another route that's not too bad in length or roughness but there's a long steep climb I'd have to make and a spot that's notoriously muddy. the last route isn't my favorite as its really narrow in spots and there are these two little bunny hops on the road that I'm wondering if I have the approach/exit angle for.
I know folks bring horse trailers up there to hunt but I don't know what route they take. I've only seen a camping trailer up there once in all the years I've been going.
    but for views like this
    _MG_2629.jpg

    _MG_1986.jpg
    I'm gonna make it work.
also, this is the area that I thought I was going to die in my rooftop tent the 1st year I had it. lots of bad lightning storms come through this area and one night it was so bad that the static in the air made the hair on my arms stand up! once strike after another, one thunderclap blends into the next they were coming so frequently. the next night wasn't so bad for lightning but the wind picked up the tent and partially closed it while I was inside. I was just hanging out, waiting for the storm to pass so I could get out and make dinner when it happened. was laying inside, arms and legs spread out, trying in vain to hold the tent down. two of the most terrifying nights I've ever spent camping. I can laugh about it now but it wasn't fun at the time.
