I can't top the slobs, but at my last base we had a guy in the firehouse that wouldn't flush the toilet. No problems until he showed up so it was easy to identify him. As remedial training I instructed the rest of the crew to come and get him, day or night, if a urinal or toilet needed to be flushed.

He complained to the fire chief and threatened to go to race relations. The chief just told him to suck it up and flush toilets until he learned. Due to another issue with a Chicano he thought better of the race relations angle. After about two months I ask him if had learned to flush toilets. He had and I ended his "training". Never had another problem with him. Sometimes it just takes a really big hammer.

My point is this, at least during my service, if a person was a pig it was up to his Sergeant or next person up the chain of command to correct them. And they always did.

I could tell you about the tooth brush and cleaning fire truck tires, but I'll save that one.:plane:

I knew some of those guys at Rosey - I spent a week there in ‘94 with the USAF C-130 gunships and PAVE LOW birds over on the ramp. They ran around back and forth in a station wagon painted up like a shark - no glass - and a giant shark fin welded to the roof.

    Those guys were nuts.

I was the LPO of our line division when I put the second chevron on and I had several dirtbags in the line shack. All unrated guys that were striking for jobs because they either failed out of A school or just chose the striker path because their recruiter fucked them. Anyhow, had one kid that just wouldn’t wash his coveralls. When the body stink is evident over the JP-5, something is wrong. Then we had Aaron “shit stain” McClain that didn’t use toilet paper, ever. He ended up going to stand in front of the man for having a shit stain in his dress whites and he didn’t replace them because he couldn’t afford to. Dude would also shit in the shower and partially stomp it down the drain.

We had a guy in the ready room, an LT that was notorious for bringing massive turds in on a towel to show his masterpiece to everyone. His call sign was Loaf.

Thats the one draw back of the military. The world is made up of ALL types, sometimes you just dont want to MEET some of "those" types.

The civilian aviation industry is the same way. Hell, even our passengers are fucking nasty sometimes.

I don’t think that’s changed in decades. Profs really only want kids that haven’t learned to think for themselves yet. So they are a big part of the problem.

I started using mine at 25. There was still a great deal of institutional hate for veterans in just about every college.

And to that, some of us weren’t about to roll over. This caused a number of spirited exchanges when the profs were called out.

Don’t know what school you went to, but mine expected us to think for ourselves, form opinions, and back those opinions up with evidence.

    Your mileage obviously varied.

My experience is the same. Taught ROTC at Princeton, The College of NJ, Rowen, and Rider Univ. You will always have shit head kids, those weed themselves out pretty quick in most places. Of course that was 2012 before the whole safe space and anti-cop movement. Currently burning my GI Bill, I’m retired and it gives me something to do, also better then waisting it. The campus is a satellite campus of the state school and a fairly mixed bag of age here. The 101 level courses are where you see the greatest ratio of kids though. Hell there was even some HS kids taking classes as AP courses. The actual state college campus or state university might be worse but generally, again the shit heads tend to self select out of school. I’ve actually encountered more that were paying for it themselves. That could be representative of the location though. The faculty is very pro veteran here. We actually have a VA center (small office) across from the Veterans Support Center. The dean (a vet) brought them on board. Veterans Upward Bound has an entire building floor. There is Purple Heart and DV parking. You’ll find that a lot of colleges have former senior level officers in dean positions. @Devious6 (retired COL) just retired from a dean(?) position. General Petraeus was a primary candidate to take over Princeton before his scandal broke. They had a few they narrowed it down to when it all happened.

As far as thinking for yourself, whatever it was before, I can attest to the history field having a major shift 10-15 years ago and most disciplines tend to lean towards critical analysis. The majority of your professors want an original opinion, their students to even challenge what previous speculation stated. One of my midterms argued against on of my professors books, ended up with an A. Although she did say more evidence would’ve better supported my argument. lol. The colleges I’ve attended or taught at, most faculty want kids to form their own opinion, even if they give their own first. Point being, academia has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years.

Again, experiences may vary but the kids with daddy’s money, yet not even trying at school tend to drop off pretty quick. Or they sit in class and don’t participate so you don’t even really notice them.

she's had it pretty good though, her first tour was the UK, then CO, then Japan, and currently in UK again.
what's funny is I told her I heard nothing but terrible things about it and she's like...it's bad when other branches know about it hahahaha

being born with very low expectations for people in general isn't a saving grace

it's a constantly blaring early warning system that tells you whatever next personal interaction you're about to have is probably going to suck

pro to that con: when it doesn't suck, it's really fucking cool
