So I'm driving myself crazy looking all over the web to see if anyone else has had this issue and what the solution was. 2016 Tacoma with the Kenwood dmx7706 head unit.

I've replaced the USB port, but, no luck.

    Decided to add pictures.
This is the one that works. It's connected directly to the head unit.

This is the one that doesn't work. Looks factory.

Unless you have a splitter to work both usb and you might have only one usb connection from the head unit.. I'm guessing

What is "not working"? Some USB ports are just power, no data.

Did you install the kenwood radio by yourself? If so, you probably mess it up.

If you got kenwood radio installed by shop, then you need to go back and have them fixed it. Looks like they changed the wires.

I bought the truck used. Head unit already installed.
By not working I mean no power and head unit does not recognize it.

I'm thinking this is what's going on.
Trying to find out how the factory port is connected. If it was connected directly to the factory head unit, then I might as well return the new one and order a blank to take it's place.

Factory USB is for data which you can add splash screen on factory headunit but I don't know what the previous owner did to it. Looks like you may have to take the headunit out and see whats behind it, I mean the wires plugged into back of the headunit.

If you want to charge your phone, you need to use the usb charger into the car lighter outlet. Not the factory USB.

Factory USB is for data and entune updates.

The one that works is connected to the head unit. It charges my phone and works with my Android Auto. Problem is the design sucks and the "door" for the port has so much tension on it that it pushes against the cord causing intermittent connection.

Is this true ? To charge a phone you have to use the cig lighter hole with an adapter ?

Yes. Lighter adapter is faster than the data usb. If you use charger in factory USB, it's slow. Which I have tested them.

I have wireless charger built into it but it's not working very well. So I am using charger via lighter adapter.

    So after lots of research...
The Kenwood head unit I have has one USB port. And it does not support USB hubs.
    So, I'm just SOL.
    Thanks for the input guys.

Just because it doesn't support hubs, doesn't mean one won't work. They just won't help support it if you have one hooked up. If you have one around to try, it might be worth hooking it up.

Might give it a shot. I was under the impression that it would not allow the Android Auto to work correctly through a hub. I'll update if I install a hub/splitter when I blackout my bezel.

Wrong before 2020 you can also play music/podcast/ it shows up on the screen when plugged in.
MUCH better sound than thru bluetooth

Well yes and no as it only puts out .5 amps so it will take a longer time depending on how fast your home charger is. it more of a maintainer of power

What I was wrong about? The factory USB can be used for data (music, podcast, wallpapers, updates).. Factory USB is slowly charging phone so.. It depends on cable, phone, etc.

I am using lighter adapter for charging which is faster for me, that notification says "quick charging". If I use factory USB, notification says "charging".

I have wireless charging pad in my truck that came with. It sucks.

This is what you said (at first)

You didn't say any of this or in-ply it had any other use in your post.
I Said "Wrong before 2020 you can also play music/podcast/ it shows up on the screen when plugged in.
MUCH better sound than thru bluetooth"

Yes its slow at .5 AMPs works for my old one but yes it will not take 1 or 2 hours to fully charge things, that's why i have a high amp usb built into the back for laptops

yep my kids iPhone just kind of says its there but not charging much at all,

I just don't like when people only put out 1/3 of what things can do because people that are new and will take it wrong because its the first things they read.
im not ripping on you its just that i just read 5 other threads that people have there heads up there ass.. :smash: and i needed to start typing..
    :annoyed:

    peace out... mike drop. clunk

First time I said data which I mean music, podcast, etc. Just like cell phone provider tells you about data plans that including text, web, etc. You know?

Just like you plug thumbdrive in and your headunit pulls data up on the screen. That's why I said data for that reason.
