What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I can’t wait to do this upgrade. First thing I’m going to do after I finish the 4x4 conversion. Where did you get your brake calipers and rotors from?

 

The calipers are from pick a part (sequoia 05) and rotors from autozone. Wanted to go with OEM pads/rotors but a little too pricey for my blood. I rebuilt the calipers with Toyota parts ($20)

 

Very Nice! I’ll probably keep an eye out for a pair of salvage calipers as well. Definitely a more affordable option

I live where we get both now, you sort of learn to deal with either. In AZ I worked in long pants in the garage wrenching and sweating in 110 degree heat, now in Eastern WA I work in low teens frequently in the winter and up to the low 100s in the summer, thankfully there is more temperate weather in between here than there ever was in AZ. But you can work comfortably in either with a heater or a swamp cooler haha

 

Working on a little side project, I'm almost done bracing one of the doors. But I ran out of steel, so I get a break until monday. I'm still trying to find a cool handle that will work from inside or out.

I posted the bumper I just finished in another post, But it turned into a star trek nerd fest.

 

Question... how are people determining how far behind the axle to mount the upper shock mounts, when doing this relocation?

 

I went as far back as I could, then welded the bottom bracket to match

 

I went with the same angle as the stock mount. Also used @Speedytech7 how to thread as a good place to start.

I'm thinking driver side stock mount dustance is a good place to start. Seems like everywhere I've read has just been a bit of a guess on this.

I wont have spare tire or spare tire bracket in my way, so that takes that out of the equation (not that I want to go back that far anyway). But the stock angle of the stock driver shock seems to be where I'll go off of.

 

It's a good place to start. I think it's about 25° from vertical. Here are some pictures of mine with out the bed.

 

I just used a plum bob and set my tube so it hung about 1.5" behind the axle to accommodate the shock mount. Doesn't need to be exact by any means. Most I think just push it as far forward as they can without interfering with the bed. 1" BL helps get it vertical.

 

That looks a lot like what I think mine is going to end up looking like. 25° sounds like it is a good spot to not start sacrificing too much dampening. As long as the length of my shock bodies body will allow it.

 

Using the size of bar I did and with the brakes for the top that I used, you end up about a 1/4 further back than the stock top mount. Provided you don't have a body lift at least, if you do (be prepared for that to destroy your bed mounting pads without reinforcements) you could get 100% vertical but if you have the top mount e brake cable it'll need some work to have a snowballs chance at clearing anything. I'd be more apt to have the axle side mounts move outward another 1-2" to make up the angle rather than move the top closer.

 

Alright yall, im going to be swapping the motor in a 4 runner and probably rebuilding the harness while at it

Whos the hook up on connectors, terminals, and the seals since parts of it were right up on the headers and such

 

Installed 5100s all around, painted front and rear bumpers, replaced original headlights and signals. Shaping up by the day
