2011 with 70K. Is this normal? So far just the front driver side is this bad but the other wheel trim pieces show some small imperfections/small bubbles that will surely end up like this too.

You think Toyota would even consider fixing it? I have to bring my truck in to get inspected for the frame rust recall anyway. I've had many cars with much higher miles that never had any paint fail like this. Seems premature, defect maybe?

Sad IMO. My 84 Regal with original paint and almost 170K, had rust in the bottom of the doors but no paint peeling. LOL

    Cool, thanks for the link.

I have been a Toyota fan since I bought my first new in 1986
With that being said my 07’ will be the last new Tacoma ever

The clear has been flaking off the fender flares of mine (super white) for years but not as bad as the OP and when the actual paint started lifting I said that’s it for me

I feel for all those owners who have clear coat failures on the body panels and also those who have a 2 yr old or newer trucks that have paint failure

With problems going on for over a decade that they have not corrected Toyota can go s@#$ it

My front bumper started to have issues like this so I removed it, sanded, primed, and sprayed it with bed liner. Did the chrome rear bumper while I was at it too. Time will tell how well it holds up.

You could also check wrecking yards

For me the wrecking yards that have shown a Tacoma in my color are a couple hours away so I have not pursued it

Thank the government for the regulations diminishing the quality of paint available.

I have a 2010 with 93,000 miles on it and nothing like that has happened to my paint. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones with good paint application. :notsure:

2010, I think it's sun damage. my front bumper clear coat is trashed, same with driver side rear fender flare. I've noticed however, it's only the painted plastics that have gone bad. all my fender flares have a little bit of clear coat peeling.

The prevention is simple. Wax your truck, with a real wax, at least once a year. Twice a year if it's red or you live near the coast or in the salt belt. This is one of those maintenance issues that have been completely lost over time. It will prevent fade, peel, and rust. Spray on "wax" is not the same thing.

I started to see issues within three or four years on paint that was meticulously maintained.
I finally bit the bullet and cut a nice check to my friendly neighborhood body shop to get it fixed right.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Take them off, prep them, and shoot some clear. You can get 2k clear on Amazon for about $25.00 a spray can. You will probably need 2 of them. You can also plastidip them black if you wanted. I did my whole 2003 with the Gun Metal Grey and it looks sweet!

Unfortunately, clear coats need to be meticulously maintained in order to last a long, long, time. I wax my vehicles with at least a spray wax once a month. With your finish failing its coming from the top edge of the flare which has lots of sun exposure and damage from the elements.
