so you see this is a fairly straight forward swap out new fan clutch

loosen a few nuts, pop old out pop new in
no need to take off fan shroud and/or loosen/take off any belts?
    easy peezy for a novice?
    mission critical

4 nuts To remove the fan.

2 clips nd 4 bolts to remove the fan shot our

once the fans off is 4 10mm nuts to swap the blade to the new clutch.,belts can stay on if desired

wow! what a strain to get up and go in yesterdays heat after came to stop just after turning the AC off to roll windows down to catch a hot breeze, nearly 110 heat with the dewpoint maxing in the 70 range
    no zip!, no pep!

new fan clutch from PA scheduled to arrive fedEx style sometime today, i am so excited like a kid in a candy store

will look and review again how to install as time permits
does the fan belt need to come off? i can use a new belt and have one on hand in case

The very high heat and humidity will make the motor perform like shit regardless. I notice that as my tacoma has gotten up there in age. I would take the fan shroud off, it's only a few extra nuts but it gives you extra room and makes the job easier. Also make sure you put it back on, its critical to engine cooling performance. Some internet mechanics will tell you to leave it off, but they are dumb.

heat and humid swamp :annoyed: and there are no stupid big lakes around here, just cornfields and cows and swine

yes i didn't see how to get that blade out any way without moving out the shroud, as long as its all topside looking down i may be aok with rudimentary metric socket tools, i have 3 sizes ratchets but the smallest is broke, won't ratchet back have to use like a wrench!

I think you only need the usual 10mm, 12mm and either 13 or 14mm for the job, and the same size box end wrenches, easy job!

Yea the heat and humidity sucks. I fix and do all my maintenace in the spring and fall to avoid having to work in the extreme humidity of the summer and the wet floor of the winter. I want a climate controlled shop BAD!

i sure think its just this fan clutch screwing around with me

must be one temperamental temperature sensitive thing!
it starts acting up then goes away then comes back then goes away

It can be replaced without taking the fan belts off. It can also be done without removing the shroud. You just have to get it it just the right position and roll it out toward the drivers ride and up.

no! getting to it when i find the proper tool(s) and time for error

the old buggar had yet another finicky day, ran the usual route on the freeway, A/C blowing nice and cold, engine pep no holding back whatsoever
stopped off the freeway to hop on the highway with A/C still on and no noticeable drag, turned A/C off when hit the surface streets and acted just fine & dandy overall, what gives?
local temps outside maybe about 10 degrees less then the previous week was but its supposed to get back up there high 90s by the end of the week

an interesting day out in the humid 100+ swamp today @ 370 miles roundtrip
with A/C on it would sail along just dandy at the start, then have to slow speed in a small town and shift gears to 35mph, then back up to highway speed and would start to slug along
stopped for a bite to eat then it seemed to sail along just dandy until having to slow down in the next small town and get back up to speed upon exiting the city limits it became a slug again :(

if this tacoma fan coupling is not the culprit what is the next item to throw a new part at, maybe the A/C idler pulley bearing thing?
