Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement, A few questions.

After replacing my front wheel bearing a few months ago on my 06' TRD Off Road M/T and curing some of the awful wheel bearing noise, I got new tires which quieted it down even more. In the last few weeks, I have been noticing an awful wheel bearing noise around 30-40 and then again at 50-65. The suspect is the rear left because if you jack it up and spin the wheel you can hear quite the grinding and rumbling coming from that wheel opposed to the other side. I just have a few questions-

Does anyone have input on that? I'm pretty mechanically inclined but this is kind of on the more complex end of things for me.

I do not appear to have an ABS sensor plug in my axle housing.

This is the kit I was looking at to solve the issue, seems fairly priced for what it comes with. But I was wondering if you have to cut the first retainer ring or can you press it off? And I think that kit comes with it but was looking for someone to confirm that. I'm also only seeing people replace the entire hub assembly rather than just the bearing it's self. I can't seem to find just the bearing for anything newer than an 04'.

I have a welder and access to a press so I was going to fab up the tool. Does anyone know how long one axle shaft is so I can find a piece of pipe to slip over it? Don't want to send it to a shop and get bent over when it seems like something I can tackle in a weekend.

Just some local trails, It does surprisingly well for being absolutely stock, it kept up or did better than my friends v8 4 runner with a 2.5" lift.

That bearing kit is awful suspect, cheap that is. Betting that could not be genuine... I also had to do the rear left wheel bearing in my 09, same noise symptoms. I bought a Timkin assembly off Rock auto that has the Koyo bearing for around $115 shipped to my house. The seal, retainer, clip, and o-ring was bought at the local dealer for $58 including Maryland sales tax. I do not think there's a separate bearing, if there is you would also have to buy the outer rubber seal and you would be right back to the cost of the whole assembly. As far as replacing it, I had a shop do mine. The old one was stuck on the axle shaft so hard it broke the guys 20 ton press. Even so I only got charged for 2 hours labor. Total cost parts, labor, and fluids was less than $300. Might cost a bit more in other areas, but I live in bum-F PA so labor rates are a little lower. I love working on stuff, but it's an aggravating job.

 

Thanks, I think I have made my decision then. We have a very reputable shop in town that charges $70 an hour. I think I'll just buy the parts and have them do it and if things like the rear brakes need to be done I'll just ask them to hold off because I can do that myself. It does seem to be one of those things that if it goes wrong could be a major pain in the ass and $300 isn't a ton. Thanks for the input, it is very much appreciated.

Also that is the same hub assembly I used in my truck (Timkin). It does have a Koyo bearing in it (atleast mine did).

Looking at this kit as well. Has it held up for you gentlemen? Abs ring went out on mine, apparently, per the shop, getting no communication. Even after inspection of wiring, voltage, and sensor replacement. Dealer wants $500 for the part, but I know KOYO is the oem.
