How do you like? Did it really change the truck that much? I love my Tacoma but this transmission is getting on my nerves. I have had all the TSBs and over 47K miles so those didn’t help me. It gotten to the point where I’ve seriously contemplated on a getting a different truck. If I could spend $800 and get my issues fixed instead of thousands more for another truck I’d be much happier. Please let me know your thoughts!

I love mine. I am in a manual but it is a joy to drive now.

If you are close, and you will buy the ecu tune from VF for your Ecu, I will flash yours for 125 dollars. You would have 200 in it. I would have to keep the ecu tune files on my computer though.

Sometimes I just roll back and forth instead of going when it turns green. Keeps people on thier toes.

I love it. Changes the way I drive the truck in a good way. Not something I constantly think about anymore but all the dead spots in the transmission are gone, cruise control is now useable where before it was just obnoxious wandering through gears and screaming to maintain a speed. One of the best things I've done to the truck hands down. I say go for it!

VF Tuner is the best upgrade I’ve done. I can tell you it got rid of these annoyances for me: (premium stock tune, stock truck btw)

    -Eliminated the driveline clunk.
-Eliminated the bogging at lower RPMs
-Eliminated the harsh up and downshifts
-Allows the truck to accelerate through a turn, instead of bogging
-eliminates the lag when you accelerate after slowing down on HWY.
-holds gears much longer based on pedal input.

my only complaint is that in ECT mode it holds 3rd gear until 3000rpm at 56Km/h like the stock Toyota ECT tune. But that’s not a drive ability issue, just needless ruckus lol. Worth it by far. I’ll also add I’m only 200km into tune. It still has some settling to do.

I was in the same boat as you previously. Bought the tune instead of trading for a different truck. Went for a drive this afternoon and for the first time since I’ve owned the taco I had a smile on my face cruising the old rolling farm roads.

The previous tunes were not all the way there, but the just released 2.0 tune Has me enjoying driving again. I had forgotten what its like to accelerate thru a corner in the appropriate gear :) , as opposed to the stock tune lugging 1100 rpm, banging a painful double or triple downshift only after the corner, screaming at redline for a split second, then back to lugging 1100 rpm.

If you like the taco otherwise, buy the tune.

Can confirm it handling rolling farm roads better. That was literally my trucks Vftuner test run as I drive them a lot. It’s all smiles now. It’s not like a performance car, but a Normal decent V6 vehicle like I wanted.

It made a big difference with my truck, well worth the money. The truck actually reacts when the gas pedal is pressed and the gear hunting is mostly gone. The final piece of the puzzle for me is a regear to 4.88’s which I’m getting done on Friday. It should be about perfect for me after that.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear! This is exciting that this tune sounds too good to be true!

As another happy AT driver with OVT I will just say this is how the truck "should" have come from the factory but didn't. Despite improvements in Toyotas ECU patches OVT is still the single most worthwhile investment I have made in the truck.

it’s worth it. Truck drives sooo much better gas mileage increased too. After lift and 275/70r17 tires my mpg dropped to average 16 i’m getting average 18 now and 20 on highway road trips. i’m also in PA.

Anyone have thoughts on OV tune with MT? I have exactly no computer skills and am wondering if it is a big enough improvement to purchase and have to find someone that is willing to do the computer parts of the install for me.

Totally worth it for the MT. A lot more load end power and fixes the whackiness of the stock tune
