Correct but the lighter weight and gearing of the 2nd gens makes that difference so obvious. All I’m trying to tell the OP is that this isn’t a TRD sport vs pro issue this is a 2nd vs 3rd gen issue

Probably just a driver issue. Not much diiference in the engines. Toyota just went with 3.5L in a lot of vehicles.

Nailed it. That’s about all there is to say on this...

OP, try OVtune if you’re driving an automatic.

Thank y’all for the advice! It may well be the driver. I need to read up on what it means to tune it up and OVtune, Ned to do my homework.

6MT. You will always be in the gear you want in the rev range you want.

S-mode made the biggest difference for me. Set at 5th on the hwy. Much better throttle response.

Since we are talking about feelings - I can remember my dads old 25 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee and how that “felt” like it had a lot of power when in reality all they did it play with the throttle so it had a higher ratio of acceleration to peddle movement. I think I even recall Consumer Reports said something about it. I hated driving my dads Jeep on finicky dirt roads. Carefully try going over a rock and you got way too much RPMs and nearly jumped over the rock. If you design a truck for off-roading you want a lot of peddle travel to give you more control at slower speeds. You have the power but it’s further down the peddle distance.

I doubt the Pro is gonna run much differently (if any) than the Sport or OR. Those trim levels are all very similar. The Pro will have all the bells and whistles, but the meat of the vehicle is essentially the same outside of the suspension and slightly larger tires.

I hear you on the change. I went from a 2010 to a 2020 (both TRD off road). To make things worse, I went from manual to auto. There sure feels like lots less low rpm torque in the new one, which seems to require strange transmission behaviors. I’m adjusting tho. No plans to replace it for at least 10 more years.
