I am approaching 100,000 miles on my ‘09 PreRunner. I changed out the coolant along with the upper and lower radiator hoses. I also changed the serpentine belt. The old belt looked to be in good shape so I kept it and the hoses in case of emergency.

 

Im at 136,000 on my 2010 and I am amazed at how well the belts and hoses look still. I wanted to change them at 120,000 but I didn't feel like they needed it.

 

I've read that before here on TW. I don't think that's accurate. My 06 Prerunner has factory LSD. At least that's what its tracks tell me. This is a 11* incline and both tires spun.

It is a SR5 DCLB Prerunner.

 

Well I got the fronts done, along with bleeding all lines.

And had to do this to get my hard line free. No one had any in stock till this week so I went to cutting.

So after that I decided to do the rear SS lines when I have Deavers to install

 

Complete detail of my truck. The dirt that came out of the cloth seats was shocking. Considering getting seat covers since the seats are nice and clean now.

 

It's ugly IMO, hopefully the shade works.

 

Rear brakes PITA

 

Yeah I was set to do my rear brakes but was shocked to find that the drum had more springs than a Swiss watch so I sprayed it down with brake cleaner and quickly put it back together!

When it starts getting really loud (120+db) it starts falling on its face and breaking up. I'm going to solve that by helping the 6x9's with boxes and narrow the range of frequencies they play, add 4" midrange, and move the tweeter crossover point up a 1/2 octave. I think I can get 124/125ish out of it.

A 25 year old PPI 50x2 amp, a JL 500w monoblock, and 5.5 volts of input out of the preamp. I'm super happy with all of it.

 

Got the @RelentlessFabrication bumper finally installed. Just have to cut the liners and fine tune the fitment. Waiting on crimping tools so I can install the Trigger 4 Plus to power the led bar.

Replaced the bushings and uniballs on my TC UCAs which were squeaky as all hell and absolutely shot.


Since Every truck project has taken longer than I thought for various reasons (mostly rust, FUCK YOU WISCONSIN). I told my wife I’d need between 2 and 6 hours today to do the work. It might have been five. Should have been 2.

Clips were rusted to the uniballs, spacers were seized to each other or to the ball or to the spindle. Battery tray settled a little Under the weight of the heavy ass AGM batter and made it hard to get the UCA bolt in and out. When I mounted a finished UCA to the truck, the clip was facing the wrong way and sheered off a little piece of a spacer, so I had to take that side all apart and reseat the clip. Had to sand and paint the under side rim of the UCAs since they were rusted. On and one.

Thank god I only have to do that every two or three years. Also that shit is expensive. $290 for the uniballs, the uniball tools, the bushings.

The amount of BS people have dealt with working on aftermarket UCAs and LCAs makes me feel like it would be worth buying a second set and just swapping them out. Then you can sell the old ones or work on them at your leisure for the next service.

 

Put new uppers and lowers on this weekend

 

It is more about getting the right upper and lower for what you do with your truck and where you live. I have JBA uppers and LOVE them. The moog ball joints are easy to replace and readily available. I also live in the northeast and have to deal with salt and sand. They also have zerk.fittings on the bushings and Ball joints. I am installing Dirt King lowers next weekend. Once again, moog BJ, and greasable zerks all around. This time I am putting antiseize on the cam bolts though.

 

JBA UCA's use extremely common full size Chevy truck ball joints. They last forever, never squeak, require very little maintenance, and if the ball joints do go out you can go to any auto parts store in any town USA and buy them. They bolt in with common hand tools.

Uni-balls were developed for racing applications and their squeak is inconsequential to a racer that maintains them before every race.
